Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Oh, man. We saw Rodriguez open for Brian Wilson back in 2012 or thereabouts. What an awesome singer/songwriter.
Speaking of which, RIP Robbie Robertson of The Band.

David LaFlamme, cofounder of It's A Beautiful Day, 82.
Not that I even realized he was still alive, but still.
The article doesn't mention "Hot Summer Day," which is on my list of greatest songs of any era.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
For those that didn’t grow up with Batman the Animated Series, Sorkin *was* Harley Quinn.
Harley was a new character created specifically for the series, which while animated often had complex adult themes, such as acknowledging the fact that Batman’s enemies are often mentally damaged victims themselves and Batman goes up against them because as a mentally damaged victim himself he understands and empathizes with them.
Quinn is the epitome of this, an intelligent psychiatrist that’s bad not because she’s born evil but because she’s not stable enough to handle how she’s been abused and it results in hurting others.
Similar to Mark Hamill elevating the Joker, it’s Sorkin’s acting that gets all of this across in a way that turned a one episode character into a franchise big hitter.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
That was such a confusing trip. Arlene Sorkin (no relation to Aaron) was married to Christopher Lloyd, producer (no relation to Christopher Lloyd, actor).

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
" Joe the Plumber," who's actual name was not Joe but instead Samuel and who was not a plumber but instead an idiot, dead at 49 of pancreatic cancer. The dumbass became the talk of the wingnutosphere back in 2008 when he asked then-candidate Barack Obama about his ever-so-oppressive tax plan that, if implemented, would prevent ol' "Joe" from starting the imaginary plumbing business he had neither the legal authority nor the monetary wherewithal to start. The liberal ( ) MSM fawned over "Joe" as well, cuz what would the 2008 POTUS election be without some big, fat 4th Estate thumbs on the McCain/Palin side of the scale?
My favorite "Joe the Plumber" story happened in 2012. As a result of the 2010 census, Ohio lost a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The wingnuts in the state legislature redrew the district boundaries such that two long-time Dem stalwarts, Marcy Kaptur and Dennis Kucinich, ended up in the same district. Kaptur won the 2012 Dem primary, ending Kucinich's long run in the House. Republicans in that district nominated "Joe" to take on Kaptur in the general election. Kaptur won with 73% to "Joe's" 23% (with some 4% going to a lolbert). I loled, even though the fact that "Joe" got 23% was more than a little horrifying.
Anyhoo, fuck Samuel the Idiot.

Another lily-livered, other-people's-money-dependent charity case who couldn't - or wouldn't - do for himself and his family.
Sad.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
‘Margaritaville’ singer Jimmy Buffett
Damn! That's a shame. He was still young.
I gotta say that I liked his music a lot better in the early days, before the whole Parrothead/Margaritaville thing took off.
But, he was one who truly made the most of life.

Huh, I don't remember ever hearing the name "Gary Wright", yet Dream Weaver was one of my favorite songs when it came out (making me about 7-8 yrs old).
