Twitter is making companies advertise to keep check marks and users pay for Twitter to be less crappy. The business model is hostage-taking.

What Musk has done—or threatened to do, more accurately—is invert the freemium model that underpins a lot of tech and media businesses: Companies offer a product for free. They try to make it really good. And if they convince enough people that the product is really good, they might get some of them to pay money and get more of that product, whether that means more newspaper articles, powerful features, or customer support. Musk’s tack has been different. He has set a series of fires that have made his social media site worse, not better. Pay up, he reasons, and he will at least hand you a hose.

Subreddit r/SanDiegan has banned Twitter/X and links to it:

Twitter/X.com are domain banned here due to CSAM on the site.

Since Musk took control of Twitter, he mostly eliminated the Trust and Safety group and stopped paying the vendor that scans for CSAM. As a result, CSAM (child sexual abuse material) has apparently been circulating on Twitter recently (from what I've read elsewhere, the same notorious video that the feds found on Josh Duggar's hard drive which is one of the most repugnant videos out there).

Musk also recently reinstated the account of someone who posted CSAM content.

As a result, we'll be removing any content here that leads to Twitter, or, as he now calls it, X. Whether it's an embed link or a direct link to a tweet. Don't care what outlet is doing it. If you're a reporter or editor, stop embedding links to Twitter in any of your content.

This is less of an issue here than it is in other subs but I want to give people a heads up that content from Twitter or X.com won't get visibility here. If you want to post a screenshot that's OK but please include WHY that content for whatever reason cannot be found anywhere else.
