Our puppy has graduated to that free-range life, but we're still getting some use out of her old kennel.

We fenced off the tree, too, but Cookie Crisp is not old enough to be left outside a kennel all the time, so he got a different crate.

Vaska's blood sugar readings were looking great, now not so much.
We changed his food, gave him some canned stuff, and his numbers went through the roof, so I guess we're switching him back.
The vet asked us to take a day and check him every 2 hours - he's getting kind annoyed with us now

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
One year, six days after adopting King I admitted defeat and returned him to Proverbs 12:10 on Saturday.
I feel both bad and good about it. Bad because I failed at teaching him to behave. (It got to the point where I was afraid he'd accidentally hurt me by pulling or knocking me down.) Good because it's not like I took him to be euthanized. He's going back to the same foster home as before and he's already listed as available.
Now I can focus my efforts on training the puppy.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Cookie Crisp was a bit too enthusiastic running around. He likes dashing around and nipping at people (and Booberry), and likes catching folds on people's pants. He had too much momentum and broke one of his baby canines.
Except for the fact that it was loose and dangly for a few hours, and we couldn't comfortably pull it, I wasn't worried because the tooth was brittle because it was already dead and the adult canines are just under the surface. He's got those teething puppy double canines on the bottom that I can't seem to get a picture of.
Teeth are generally boring under the microscope, but I'll look anyway.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
My brother is visiting, and just left for a hike this morning. (He flies out to visit for a couple days, then leaves on big long hikes, then comes back and stays a few more days again before he flies back home.)
Ruthie is pretty protective, and does bark pretty scarily at people when they first come in, but once she is properly introduced, she's fine. It's nice knowing she'll alert us when someone walks in, and she always calms right down when she either recognizes them or gets to know them.
Not so much with my brother, though. She's kind of scared of him for some reason. She'll follow him around barking until he sits down, at which point she leans up against him and acts normally begging for pets and treats and stuff. But once he gets back up and walks on his hind legs like Rory Calhoun, she starts following him around barking again.
I'm hoping that once my bro gets back from his hike, she'll be a lot calmer about him, but it's still very weird.

Nothing makes me feel more like a mommy than taking a nice shower, taking care of my skin and hair and nails, putting on all clean clothes, feeling great ... and then suddenly finding that I need to wash a bunch of literal shit off a tiny loved one.

I take care of six rescue cats. The latest is an old neighborhood tomcat who looks like Kamilah Hauptmann's avatar. He gets to keep his nuts intact.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Anybody in or near SoCal who wants to adopt a pibble that will be euthanized on Thursday 3/24 in Riverside, CA? Li'l Puppet is distraught about it after learning about it on social media, and begged us to do something about it. Apparently, she's been used as a puppy factory her whole life , but they say she's a sweet girl who likes people & other dogs.
I just can't drive 7-odd hours, pick up a pibble, and drive all the way back.
ETA: I don't know who the dumbass was who posted about it, but they were full of shit. We called the shelter directly, and they told us she's actually both animal- and human-aggressive, and not social at all. Which is probably why she is about to be euthanized.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Oh geez, I haven't mentioned this up till now: We got a new puppy. Meet Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cinnamon, or Cinnamini for short. He's a mini Aussie.
DSC01582_sm.jpeg
We got Cookie Crisp last year (he's just shy of a year now), and he's just to the point where he's not having many accidents. He's a really social dog - wanting to play with others, and as cute as it is watching him figure-eight around the older dog, we thought getting a companion closer to his age would be better. Booberry is aging rapidly, and is less of a playmate than a dog who tolerates this bundle of fur and energy.
It seems to be a good choice. Cookie loves to be chased, and Cinnamon has been more than obliging.

My beloved Waffle was put to sleep today. I held him in my arms and he purred until he drew his final breath. He died knowing that he was loved.
He was the sweetest Kitty in the world, and dearly loved to be held. I miss him more than I can say!

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
We've had massive flooding, and the campus is devastated. We just got power and water back on after several days without. It has definitely been a baad week!
I had to go in and make the final arrangements for Waffle's cremation today. The finality of it was ... difficult. I had to step into the bathroom to dry my eyes and wipe my nose.

She has the doofiest ears! We wanted 1 up, 1 down, but ended up with 2 part of the way up. I guess we fed her the right amount of coca cola when she was teething, but we should have, I dunno, laid her on her side so all the calcium would pool to one side? We live and we learn.

Ruthie Roo sat down just so earlier today, and in so doing brought back an image from long, long ago.

The puppies have fleas.
Two flea baths and a dose of Capstar and it may be under control until the dogs start rolling in the backyard again.
Oh, and Cinnamon is teething. I just caught him chewing on the wooden leg of a tray by my computer, and he's also attempted the metal leg of the video light by my computer and the handle for the desk chair adjustment.
Not to be outdone by Mookie, here's Cookie and Cinnamon both trying to chew the same stick:
