The biryani was pretty good. Not as good as I would like, but it was my very first attempt, so I'm going to keep working on it.

Re: What's for Dinner?
I live in a very multi cultural community (mostly Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan) White girls like me are legit the minority. We gets tons of Biryani in here at work. my colleagues love to share. This is some seriously delish stuff.
At Diwali we had a cook off of sorts with about 10 different Biryanis to try.
As for tonight's dinner, I still suffer from a UTI and I just feel like a bagel and tea

Re: What's for Dinner?
I am envious (of the food, not the UTI). Indian food in general is my favorite, but it's somehow also one of the things I'm not good at cooking. I can make palak paneer and a couple kinds of daal, but for anything else, I'd just go to restaurants.
But since the 'rona, I'm not eating out, so I need to step up and finally figure out how to make more Indian foods. I've made naan and now Hyderabadi biryani, plus I have some limes fermenting for achaar. So I'm making a little progress.

Re: What's for Dinner?
I would absolutely kill to be able to make a good tikka masala & naan, and a proper basic curry.

Re: What's for Dinner?
I was surprised at how easy the naan was. I didn't make it super-authentic, because I don't have a tandoor or anything, but it was plenty good.
You should try it.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Yeah, making naan isn't hard at all. Ok, it's hard to get one exactly like a good restaurant because of the oven deal as lisapea said. But you can make some fucking amazing naan that is super tasty at home. I've been making it since the naaaaaan thread way back when.
And although it isn't exactly homemade you can make some great tikka masala at home if you can get good spice pastes like these
Specifically the paste. Just buying a curry sauce is almost always disappointing, but these pastes (at least here in the UK) make a very nice curry. You have to add a few things yourself, but nothing you won't likely have already, like tomato paste or cream.
If you're not eating out or getting take out and want to satisfy that Indian food jonesing, then the paste and homemade naan will hit the spot.

Re: What's for Dinner?
That paste, or at least the Patak Madras variant, is an absolute staple here. Plus pre-cooked poppadums (making them at home has always been disappointing, a huge mess of oil, or both). And lime pickle.

Mmmmmm lime pickle.
If you like spicey stuff and can get this
You should give it a try. Amazing. Better than lime pickle imo. We used to be able to get it at Asda, but I haven't seen it in a while

Re: What's for Dinner?
So my bestie a few days back ended up with three dozen frozen eggs, some of which had gotten a little cracked but had intact membranes. They were still good but needed to be used soon.
I was all like, "Ha ha. Sucks to be you." The next day, though, I had an idear. So she brought me those eggs, a small thing of loose pork sausage she also needed used up, and some tortillas. Then I added potatoes, cheese, and chiles and made 24 breakfast burritos--a dozen for us and a dozen for her--and we had bowls the stuff that was left over after I ran out of tortillas.
It was pretty good, and now we both have frozen breakfast burritos, plus we didn't have to waste all those eggs.
I feel like a pretty clever hen right now, but I am really tired because I'm not experienced with that assembly line type of thing.

Re: What's for Dinner?
It's been getting progressively warmer lately, but today is nice and cool, raining and a bit of snow earlier, so I'm making a huge pot of beef and vegetable soup served with feta cheese and bread.
PS: The downside of making everything from scratch is that the refrigerator is full of sauces and condiments and jams and jellies and pickles and dog food and stuff all in near-identical mason jars, and yogurt and cheese and English muffins and leftovers in near identical plastic takeout containers. Almost nothing is clearly labeled and things keep getting moved around, so it's pretty hard to find what you're looking for. This would qualify as a humble brag if I had even a speck of humility about it, but I don't.

Does Costco carry a 3 pound bag of ground goat? I heard this on a cooking show and I don't know.

Tonight's dinner is cod baked in butter, lemon, white wine and heavy cream.
With a side of sautéed spinach

I have become a vegetarian, mostly to confound the Mor-man who is the chief cook.
I've discovered those delicious falafel balls! yummy! We have been having different dinners for a week now. Two separate menus.
