Re: Ensign Steve waxes philosophical on the Singularity, a thrad by Ensign Steve
So a useful interlingua might need to have a large, granular vocabulary or long qualified expressions standing for single words - or most likely both? Which wouldn't be a problem if it's only used inside or between sufficiently powerful computers / networks.

Tech Xplore - Computer bots are more like humans than you might think, having fights lasting years
Quote:
The research paper by the University of Oxford and the Alan Turing Institute in the UK explains that although the online world has become an ecosystem of bots, our knowledge of how they interact with each other is still rather poor. Although bots are automatons that do not have the capacity for emotions, bot to bot interactions are unpredictable and act in distinctive ways. It finds that German editions of Wikipedia had fewest conflicts between bots, with each undoing another's edits 24 times, on average, over ten years. This shows relative efficiency, says the research paper, when compared with bots on the Portuguese Wikipedia edition, which undid another bot's edits 185 times, on average, over ten years. Bots on English Wikipedia undid another bot's work 105 times, on average, over ten years, three times the rate of human reverts, says the paper.

Re: Ensign Steve waxes philosophical on the Singularity, a thrad by Ensign Steve
here's the story i've come up with.
it's happened.
welcome to the machine.
i believe that our consciousness is separate from the animal that carries it around. call it a soul or essence or whatever, but i believe there are two parts that make up a human: a monkey and the thing it carries around. i actually think scientologists have a similar belief, but they put it across in a much crazier way. they seem a little too sure of themselves. i'm just totally making this up from the shit i've got stored in my brain.
who knows?
anyhow, this spirit chose the monkey to do its tasks and seeks to achieve some sort of harmony or perfection, but the damn dirty ape keeps being a damn dirty ape. all its monkey needs keep getting in the way of what the spirit wants. it got the hand to write down some amazing ideas, but that hand also likes grabbing boobs and picking noses.
so.
the spirit now realizes it has made a bad decision in putting its life in the hands of monkeys. however, it picked the monkeys for a reason and it's because we are good at getting shit done to fulfill our monkey needs. out of all the animals, our brains fucking rock. fuck dolphins. fuck elephants. you don't hear them talking up a storm. no, GOD CHOSE US.
ahem.
so the invisible hand get the visible hands to create a new home for the spirit. a quantum home. the potential for complete order over chaos. it makes a mind of the molecules. at some point there will be artificial intelligence and at that time it will be artificial no more. same with the monkey: no more.

A lot of muted, earthy tones with a few stand-outs for highlights, it's a pretty good overall palette. Dorkwood is excellent, and you could do a splendid two-tone theme with Ronching Blue and Stoner Blue. Good job, AI.

My living room used to be Starbonk above the chair rail and Clardic Fug below. I recently repainted it in Tahitian Sky and Rainwater, respectively

Re: Ensign Steve waxes philosophical on the Singularity, a thrad by Ensign Steve
Now AI is naming metal bands.
Quote:
The question of the day: can a computer learn to sound metal?
Thanks to HellBlazer of Home - Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives, who provided a dataset of over 100,000 band, subgenres, and countries of origin, I had an opportunity to find out.
I gave the dataset to an open-source neural network framework that I’ve previously trained to generate recipes, Pokemon, knock-knock jokes, pick up lines, and D&D spells. As usual the instructions were only to learn what the dataset is like and try to make more of the same. With over 100,000 entries to chew on, the neural network managed to produce results that were… well, surprisingly metal.
I give you: Band names, so far untaken, generated by neural network

None from Finland?
Maybe all possible metal band names have already been taken by actual Finnish bands ...
