False Education
Education now days, especially in America, has become nothing more than a tool to mold children into human resources - to indoctrinate them into being compliant workers of the state. Modeled after the Prussian model of education in the early 19th century, and then refined by the Pragmatism movement with people like John Dewey, the school system works as an institution of social manipulation against the masses.
The many aspects of this system comprises of age segregation, memorization, repetitive tasks (assignments, homework, drills), positive reinforcement in being compliant to the rules, and negative reinforcement to reduce any form of questioning the school establishment. Those that are considered "non-cooperative" are usually drugged, put in detention (school or juvenile), suspended, expelled - any other tool that can punish those who go against society. There is hardly any teaching on other subjects, such as learning Philosophy or learning Logic; instead reducing the curriculum to Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science - with some exceptions of music and art. These four main subjects are not taught in detail but are taught in separate and oversimplified ways to cripple the minds of students, where they don't even know much about these subjects except what is told to them.
The results of implementing this system has done damage to the children and the larger masses in the United States, with low test scores being examples of such indoctrination and social manipulation.
Quote:
Among 34 developed countries, the United States ranked 26th in math, 21st in science and 17th in reading -- none of them significantly different from previous PISA tests. The top performer in math was Shanghai, scoring the equivalent of three grade levels above the average. It was followed by Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, South Korea, Macau and Japan, then Liechtenstein, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
At the bottom were Qatar, Indonesia and Peru.
The 34 countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and 31 partner countries and economies, ranging from Albania to Vietnam, participated in the Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA for short. In 2012, PISA assessed 510,000 students, mostly 15-year-olds. PISA sampled students in each country and released results for nations and some states.

U.S. students score below international averages in math, reading and science - San Jose Mercury News
Quote:
In fall 2012, the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development tested 510,000 students between ages 15 and 16 in 65 economies, including 34 OECD countries -- a sample that OECD says represents 28 million students. Among those 34 countries, the U.S. performed slightly below average in math, scoring 481, and ranked 26 (though the report notes that due to measurement error, the ranking could range from 23 to 29.) Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), Korea and Japan came out on top, followed by such European countries as Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Netherlands, Estonia, Finland and Poland. Peru, Indonesia, Qatar, Colombia and Jordan came in last.
In reading, the U.S. performed around the OECD average of 496, ranking 17 (or between 14 and 20) with an average score of 498. Again, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Finland, Ireland, Taiwan, Poland and Estonia came out on top, with Argentina, Albania, Kazakhstan, Qatar and Peru filling out the bottom.
The U.S. also came in around the OECD science average of 501, ranking 21 (between 17 and 25) with an average score of 497. Top scorers included Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Finland, Estonia, Korea, Vietnam, Poland and Canada. The lowest performers include Peru, Indonesia, Qatar, Albania and Tunisia.

U.S. Test Scores Remain Stagnant While Other Countries See Rapid Rise
The history of how this school system has been implemented has been well documented, by people like John Taylor Gatto and others. John Taylor Gatto was a school teacher for 30 years, who left in around 1991(?) and has written many books detailing the exposing of this school system as being a massive fraud. In his book, Underground History of American Education, John Taylor Gatto reveals how the school system in America today was modeled by the Prussian (now Germany) model of schooling, which itself was modeled by totalitarian-utopian principles.

Re: False Education
You left quite a few unanswered questions in your Big Bang thread. Why are you starting a new discussion when you left that one hanging? I am really interested in what you think causes falling.
We have discussed education extensively here, including all the ideas you just posited and John Taylor Gatto specifically.

Sorry for the delay; I had other things to do and so I could't address it. I addressed your points here.

Re: False Education
I think you could have pretty much fun here, dtdw, if you want.
If you want to talk about your personal theories about the Big Bang and stuff, there is a fairly large contingent here who will be happy to engage you for as long as you like. We currently have another similar thread here that's practically a subforum in itself, in fact. There are a whole bunch of users here who pretty much live in thread, so it's entirely possible you could gain a following here as well.
As far as talking about education, that fits in nicely here as well. Just don't assume everyone here is ignorant and stupid. We have a few pet dumbasses, but for the most part, the people here who talk about stuff know what they're talking about, so don't start the patronizing right out of the gate. We get a lot of people coming around trying to blow our tiny little minds with kind of entry level stuff without taking the time to read the room first.
In fact, it's a pretty good bet that no matter what your topic of choice is, someone here is a giant nerd of that. It's kind of amusing to try to see who here knows the most about, say, batteries or Zoroastrianism or whatever.
Personally, I'm just here to learn new swears, though.

Ziggurats were actually voltaic piles, according to leading experts.

Re: False Education
HA! Ziggurats were made out of mud bricks. And before anyone starts on about the so-called "Parthian Battery", I've lived in Ctesiphon, the place was crawling with Zoroasters- I mean it was the official religion and shit- and I never saw anyone using electricity to coat stuff with gold, power their lap-top, or anything else.
Granted the ziggurats did get hit by lightning more often, being tall structures. Priests usually got off the top when it was lightningy. And I can only vouch for when they were built, not retrofitting and stuff. I wasn't allowed in the finished structures, generally. AND NOT BECAUSE I AM AMAZINGLY MUSCULAR- just it was priests only. I'm not clumsy. I am graceful like a graceful thing. Crap now I suddenly can't think of graceful things to compare myself to. A jaguar?

Re: False Education
Not only were Ziggurats voltaic piles (notwithstanding proto-überGordon's senile maunderings to the contrary) but it is also a well known fact that they were designed by extraterrestrials.

Re: False Education
1. I AM NOT SENILE.
2. I AM ALSO NOT MAUNDERINGS. I don't know what that is, exactly, but I figure it is not good so I want nothing to do with it.
3. I think YOU are voltaic piles, which is when you stick batteries up your butt and get hemmroids! HA! AND YES I KNOW THAT IS NOT HOW IT IS SPELLED BUT I TRIED EIGHT TIMES AND BARRY WON'T ANSWER MY TEXT SO WHO CARES.
4. The royal architects and builders were many things, but unless they were also MASTERS OF DISGUISE like The Dana Carvey, they were not extraterrestrials. Nor supraterrestrials. And definitely not shaven dimension-hopping yetis.

Re: False Education
Freddie Mercury was also an extraterrestrial. It's right there in his name.
