Disapprove Small Laptop Problem

For the longest time, whenever I closed the lid of my Dell Inspiron 9300, it would shut down the monitor. It stopped doing this a while ago, however. Now, when I close the lid, the screen stays on, tirelessly illuminating the half-centimeter or so between it and the keyboard. Under my power management settings, the only options for "When I close the lid of my laptop:" are standby and hibernate, and I can't find any other settings that would apply. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks,
Naruto

There should be a tiny switch that the lid depresses when you shut it. Maybe that's stuck or broken? Otherwise I got nothin'.

There are a few different mechanisms that laptops use to sense the lid being closed. I also suspect something along those lines (and you're not alone with that problem if my Google results mean anthing).

It's the age old problem with moving bits on anything electronic ... You could try setting the 'turn off monitor' setting to a shorter period, the only down side to that of course is that when you go to make coffee or pause the monitor will turn off closed or not.

Okay, I can't find any sort of switch on the outside, but the little hooks that keep the laptop lid closed may hit something when go into the holes below the keyboard. If that's the problem, I doubt I can do anything about it.

I currently just set my monitor to shut down after 1 minute when I'm going to leave it a lone for a while.

I would suspect a problem with the switch that's supposed to sense that it's closed.
