Re: Miscellany
Portland Oregon is rife with a mint type lozenge called Golden Lotus, or if you're feeling fancy, something elderberry related.

Honey Lemon hot water and whisky is a hot toddy and also very common.
East or west, east or west.

I usually stick with Strepsils, but recently tried some other brand as a "candy". Discovered if "fixes" a sore throat by making everything, including your mouth, numb.

Re: Miscellany
Does it have a zinc compound in the ingredients list? I recall something like that from a product that had a similar numbing effect.

Re: Miscellany
We used to have these in various flavours: lemon, cherry, honey, ...
Later, the dominant name on the packaging was 'Halls', and now they're much less often seen, have changed shape to round, are sugar free (yuck), and come in boxes rather than a square tube wrapper.
It's a shame that the confectionery of our youth keeps changing names and/or disappearing completely.

I don't think so, no zinc mentioned, but does have benzydamine hydrochloride which for all I know might be zinc, or mercury, or arsenic under a new trendier name...

Ooh, cold is it's whole other can of worms!
My mother, like many other Finnish mothers, was absolutely convinced that yellow Jaffa (a local orange soda) was the way to treat the upset stomachs of children. I myself have broadened it to include most sodas.

Re: Miscellany
Honey and lemon would be my first go-to, but if you want something that feels like medicine, menthol is also popular.

I don't know if they still do, but Sucrets lozenges used to have Lidocaine in them, like literally the numbing agent from the dentist.

Coffee with Jack Daniels in it.

Re: Miscellany
My Mom swore by 7-Up for anything tummy-related, and it does sort of work. Got nothing for colds other than the usual honey & lemon, although once or twice, the older Quebecois lady next door gave me a wonderful remedy without telling my teetotaling mom. Probably involved brandy, I'll never know for sure, but it knocked me out and fixed me right up.

Re: Miscellany
Ymir will hate me for this but just about every cold medicine I had growing up was "cherry" flavored. Basically just red with a bit of citric acid in it.
Now it's honey and lemon. I live for Ricola for coughs though, so whatever flavor that is. I still go for the cherry stuff sometimes too in over the counter medicine.

Re: Miscellany
So this is random.
The Mor-man works at a funeral home and is at gravesides on the reg.
Yesterday was -18C the high was -12C and snowy, windy conditions. So somewhere in between those temps, at the graveside, the family released 2 dozen white doves into the sky.
The Mor-man did not see that coming - he wondered what the boxes with the air holes were for. When they went up he was expecting them to freeze instantly and come down *thud, thud, thud* Dove-sicles
They all disappeared though, and later he found out they return to their place, their home, their--- I dunno. But they come back to the company that supplies them and live to be released another day.
