It's getting a lot of play on left-leaning websites, and I haven't completely vetted it, but it wouldn't surprise me.

The fact that cruelty is now a feature, not a bug, for a sizeable portion of Christians of all stripes in the United States, has to be troubling for the remainder.

Jeff Sharlet's The Family features a bunch of prominent, highly connected right wing religious leaders that preach a masculine, burly, Capitalist Jesus that is against turning the other cheek. It doesn't really matter if goes against a literal interpretation of Jesus in the Bible, but it feels good, and it justifies this people being greedy, bigoted motherfuckers.

I gather this new form of "Christianity" has been gaining popularity amongst the hoi polloi.
