Re: Rudy Giuliani Appreciation Thread
Ohio's one of those shitheaded states where judges are elected in good old fashioned, down-home, head-to-head elections. That can result in abundant political hackery, but my experience with Ohio municipal court judges was 100% positive. It's a tough job, and you really have to want it to run in the first place. Dipshits and incompetents generally don't want anything to do with a municipal court judgeship.
I voted for a lot of Republicans over the years, and p. much all of them were Ohio judges. If someone could manage a docket, handle trial and pretrial processes smoothly, and genuinely cared about giving litigants a level playing field, that was more than enough for me.
The jibhead part of this story is that it makes Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor look like a good guy. Ohio has a procedure by which litigants can petition the CJ to disqualify a trial court judge from a pending case. Happened to us once. We got a big verdict in a personal injury case against a power line company, and defense counsel wanted to disqualify the judge from deciding a post-trial motion that could have added a ton of additional money to the judgment. We won that one.
O'Connor's suspension order in this case was the right thing to do, but it masks the fact that she's a giant piece of shit, a bought-and-paid-for stooge of the insurance industry and big business. Back in the day, insurance companies were very successful at getting the Ohio legislature to pass toart refoarm legislation, only to have the Ohio Supreme Court and its 4-3 ordinary people favoring majority shoot it down on a variety of state constitutional grounds. O'Connor's election to the Supreme Court in 2002, financed with fucktons of insurance industry money, was the beginning of the end for that state of affairs.
So yeah. Fuck Judge Pinkey Carr for: (1) being an asshole in her own right; and (2) making Maureen O'Connor appear to be a non-asshole.

It's a little amazing how often the statement "This should be an easy case" is followed with the discovery that you would be Potential Client's third, fourth or fifth lolyer on said "easy case."
Oh, and before I forget completely:

US revokes visa of Ukrainian Giuliani ally
Another one of Rudy's pro-Russian buddies officially unwelcome.
Quote:
A US official said there are also conversations within the US government about potentially sanctioning that individual -- Andrii Telizhenko -- and identifying him as a Russian agent. Democrats have accused Telizhenko of intentionally spreading Russian disinformation.
In mid-September, the US Treasury Department sanctioned another ally of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani -- controversial Ukrainian lawmaker Andrii Derkach -- and accused him of being an "active Russian agent" who is part of Moscow's interference in the 2020 campaign.
A source familiar told CNN that Ukrainians became aware of the visa revocation when Telizhenko attempted to board a flight from Kiev to New York and was unable to do so. It is unclear why he was planning to visit New York, the source said, but they believed it was tied to the US presidential election being just around the corner.
|
It's strange to contemplate his transformation. Wiki -
Quote:
Politically a Democrat and then Independent in the 1970s, Giuliani has been a Republican since the 1980s.[1] He served as United States Associate Attorney General from 1981 to 1983 and United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1983 to 1989.
|
Now he consorts with klepto-apparatchiks who want to knock the snot out of the pitiful remnants of our formerly, reasonably stable governing structure and its alliances.

Re: Rudy Giuliani Appreciation Thread
You all heard about the New York Post story about Hunter Biden's PC found in a Delaware PC repair shop and it's so incriminating and everything. No? Anyway, the story is a thing, but pretty dubious.
And now for the Rudy connection.
Quote:
Intelligence officials warned President Trump that Rudy Giuliani — hero of 9/11 and once New York’s and America’s mayor — was likely a Russian dupe, a bombshell Washington Post story reported Thursday.
The report came as Giuliani came under fire over the authenticity of an “October surprise” email behind a tale linking Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his son Hunter to a Ukranian gas company.
|
What a rube.
Quote:
When Giuliani went to Ukraine in December to investigate Burisma and the Bidens, he interacted with “people tied to Russian intelligence,” the Washington Post said.
Intelligence officials feared Giuliani — a former federal prosecutor who is now a Trump lawyer and freelance White House investigator — was being used to feed Russian misinformation to the president, four former officials familiar with the matter told the newspaper.
Their warning to Trump, one of the officials told the newspaper, was: "Do what you want to do, but your friend Rudy has been worked by Russian assets in Ukraine.”
Trump “shrugged his shoulders” at the warning, the former official said. “That’s Rudy,” the president said dismissively.
