Absolutely true. There's more than a little emotional security in certain knowledge that you're going to win regardless of how slappy a slapdick you are.

It does matter, though, because once the case is laid out clearly and thoroughly, anyone voting to acquit is clearly admitting they're complicit. They can't convincingly claim they didn't know.

As loathsome as they are generally speaking, there are a whole lot of Trump supporters who've been hoodwinked because they're gullible and don't know how to fact check the things people are telling them. And with people being more isolated from normal society, they've been more vulnerable than ever.

There are quite a few already coming around after the insurrection and multiple failed Qanon predictions. (Stay home March 4, though. The craziest ones are still on board.)

He won't be convicted, of course, but that doesn't mean it doesn't matter.

During the Second Impeachment of Donald Trump, I wondered what would he, his supporters and the Republican Senators be saying if the insurrectionists succeeded in their goal. Let's say that they were able to get to some Congressmen, harm them, maybe kill them and stop the counting of the Electoral Votes.

Assume that somehow the siege ends, maybe with the insurrectionists being arrested and are now in prison.

What would Trump and his Trumpists do?

I wanted someone to ask them this question, but I guess it isn't relevant to an impeachment trial. But I think that their answers would be revelatory. I guess I'll have to wait for the alternate history TV series on HBO Max or whatever.
