Hello there
I'm happy the registration delay has been fixed.
I seem to recall trying to register here months ago and I had to wait weeks with no results. And after enough time the accounts themselves would even vanish, so I didn't know if this would ever work. Glad it finally did.
I look forward to professional discussions and making friends. I'm pretty lonely after a traumatic experience involving losing my first girlfriend this last month.
I really do hope to meet a lot of great people most of all. Don't be surprised if you find me on a lot your profiles!
Thanks!

Gizmoduck!
We get lots of attempted spam registrations, so most of us are probably a little nervous that you're going to try to sell us something, but if you're just a real guy, WELCOME and sorry for that ugly smiley.

Oh you poor, poor duck. What has brought you so low to come here for professional discussion(s).
I mean, aside from the loss of your girlfriend. For that you have my sympathy and empathy.
pea has already gross-smiley welcomed you so thankfully I don't have to show you that again.

Gizmoduck!
I'm happy a real person has finally come through the deluge of spammer registrations
And that's the reason behind the delays in the past. Not so long ago Limoncello (if you're bored you might want to look at her intro threads) only came to our attention by [thanks]ing a bunch of posts. Now, we have a few extra pseudo-admins (emphasis on the pseud) processing the barrage ... and there are a huge number.
Anyway, enough of the boring admin discussions! We have enough of those already!
because this monstrosity can never be overused

Also, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your girlfriend.
Did you go back and check in the last place you saw her?

Re: Hello there
Wow, I never expected such a huge flood of posts!
I'm sorry to hear this site seems to get a lot of spam attempts. I had no idea; the whole forum was actually not even the easiest to find, so I can't think of any reasons it'd even be primed for spamming in the first place!
Well, yes, I didn't know what to expect here, but I was assuming it would be civilized discussions on a lot of topics in any case! I'll take my time and see what's around in the meantime and see!
And, to all who asked, the worst part in regard to what happened was, we had agreed to give each other time to work on ourselves and I stupidly got paranoid that it was a bombshell breakup and went too overboard.
With what we had, however, even being just a LDR, it wouldn't be enough to break anything, and we both waited quietly.
In that meantime, I found the forum we were at (and met on) and that I took a break from to give her space, that I had been banned almost 2/3 of the time I had simply been waiting on, and she was ignoring me too. Apparently she claimed to have seen a very heated post on some idiot's profile I have not been on in July and decided it was me.
Someone on staff of that forum orchestrated something, because they didn't much care for me (part of why I was drawn here, that forum liked to be a hive mind where if you dared disagree, no matter how politely, you were an enemy and attacked) and did something while I was away for over a month to do something to nail in the banning.
And whether or not it was their intent to also ruin one of the best things that ever happened to me, I don't know, but they did.
My friend and I tirelessly worked to disprove it and at the very least tell her none of that about me was true. At the very least to know that wasn't who I am... and I don't know since.
I've honestly been too afraid to check back to see what happened. Call it cowardly or not, I guess because I feel I'm trying to appeal to the staff I directly suspect has got me nervous to see what other bullshit they'll try to spin or whatever. Or if they really will help me.
All I know for sure is, it was not by hands that any such post was made, nor is there any logical progression of any fiber of my being for it ever to exist, publicly or not; at all. And if they really don't want me on the forum, fine, I don't care. I honestly didn't much care for it anyway, but it's really hurt to lose what was essentially my best friend.
Just last month, we were at the point of decided a future together, even, moving and the like. So, as you can understand, it's been very hard.
I need to check to see if my friend even got through to her. She would be hurting just the same as me, and couldn't just switch it off... but I don't know.
And I feel afraid to know too.
As you can guess, the entire story is very long and complicated and believe me, I could go on, but that's the gist. If anyone wants to know the full story and has time to read a novel about it, ask away, but until then, this should be enough!
In the meantime, I've tried to at least regain my footing by finding new places and hopefully more friends. So yeah, I'm pretty real, I'd say!

You couldn't find us because no one links to us [in-joke which you will fully understand if you read all past threads].
I think busier and more connected sites get proportionately more spam attempts, but many of them have anti-spam filters that we probably can't use because of the old version of forum software or something like that.

There is definitely no girly-gang hive mind here. No way. And anyone who says there is is an enemy and will be attacked.

Re: Hello there
Yeah, I could tell all that from just the premise of the site! That's good to hear that we can actually have mature discussions on the internet! Who would've guessed?!
Nah man, a long distance relationship can work so long as the parties involved can put forth the dedication required.
I know a lot of people probably don't view online friends the same as their real life ones like I do, but that's not how I am. So to me, where I meet someone, friend or otherwise, is irrelevant. I get just as attached and just as serious with them as if they were right next to me.
And we both did in regard to our relationship, to levels I don't know if I can even describe.
But LD comes with a price; when things like this happen, you can't just make them stop and listen to you like you could in person, show up and wait for them, etc; it's a bit trickier... but still doable.

A connection with someone is a connection, regardless where it happens.
If this is the kind of person someone is (I am), or they are lonely, etc, I hardly even see it as an obligation or anything but positive.
I've never had anything so special in my life before.

Re: Hello there
Joe is kidding you. He has a LDR himself. This involves multiple expensive trips for both parties between the UK and Finland. Any worthwhile R totally rewards the effort put into it, whether or not the R has extra letters in front of it.

Re: Hello there
JoeP is messing with you. That means he likes you. Lots of us here have had LDRs, including several that started on this board or one of its precursor boards. We think it's weird and gross to meet people in person, like, with your face.
I'm sorry it turned out that way for you, but I promise you as an old person, I have never known a couple who did that breaking up and getting back together thing where they weren't just prolonging the breakup process. If she's not even listening to you, she's not right for you, anyway.
I know it's awful and you feel miserable about it now, but it really does get easier, and I'd bet that some day, you'll be glad you were freed up for something else that's going to come along.

Re: Hello there
Just so you're aware, the most active amongst us have known each other vie this forum for a while yet. So, we can get cantankerous with new people or each other from time to time. You know, like the way family can completely exasperate you the way only a family member can.
