For too long, interesting skulls have been relegated to toil in obscurity in post-slutting and counting threads, in weirdliness and oddities threads, and, in the worst miscarriage of decency, miscellany and lolcats threads. I am fed up with it. I believe skulls need to be elevated in status so as to have their very own thread. Therefore, I give you:
THE SKULL THREAD
Post all your skull pictures and breaking skull news in this thread.
I'll kick things off with the Skull Pinhole Camera:

This work entitled Third Eye, a study of "the beauty of decay," uses precious metals like titanium and silver to expose the memory of time onto film, sheering the 150 year old skull of a 13 year old girl.
Sublime and spooky at the same time, these wondrously detailed confections are handcrafted from premium Guittard chocolate. Valerie Confections, an artisanal chocolatier in Los Angeles, created the assortment of miniature skulls for us, and they arrive in a coffin-shaped box. Included are milk, bittersweet and white chocolate. 3 oz. Set of six, two of each flavor. A Williams-Sonoma exclusive.
I just ordered these goodies for our October visit with SharonDee, so you will be seeing these in person soon!
It's the "skull" of a shark. Sharks have no bones so, technically, don't have skulls. (A shark's skeleton is made of cartilage, not bone.) Therefore, the "skull" of a shark is properly known as its chondrocranium.
Oh, and
sharks do get cancer, just like all other vertebrate animals. While it's true that cartilage is a lot less prone to become cancerous than are many other body tissues, even bone, that's because cartilage has no direct blood supply and therefore grows very slowly as a rule. Slow-growing tissues with no direct blood supply rarely become cancerous. So taking "shark cartilage" pills will not reduce your chances of getting cancer. All it will do is make you a little poorer, some quack a little richer, and some poor sharks dead.
