What's better than hiring an overpriced external vendor to write code? Hiring an overpriced external vendor and discovering that they are actually outsourcing their coding to an offshore contractor whose developer apparently does not know how to specify the port on which web service calls will be made. What's even better than that? Three days of "troubleshooting" in which the vendor insists that the problem is on your end and repeatedly fails to respond positively to direct requests for the information that would allow you to track the issue down, culminating in a phone/shared desktop meeting in which you have to talk their developer through discovering and fixing the problem. Also, a reminder, I AM NOT A JAVA DEVELOPER! I AM GOOGLING THIS SHIT JUST LIKE YOU WOULD BE DOING, IF ONLY YOU WEREN'T TOO INCOMPETENT TO HIDE YOUR OWN INCOMPETENCE!
Not that I know from personal experience or anything.

Hello dog owners. Let's take a little break from the day to day doggie injustice/justice stories and talk about your place in the social sphere.
Holiday work party? One might think twice about bringing the spouse or children, even though the invite clearly stated that would be fine, but you dog owner? You bring your poodle (in an out fit) to a party at a house. Not your house, nope. A party with food. Then you act disappointed that we are not petting your animal while eating finger foods. Being that you are in a health field, perhaps you might consider why we aren't thrilled with such a wonderful bonding experience.
Also bringing your dog to work is fine, if you are a groomer, have a pet store or other outside/animal related venture. Places I don't want to see your dog is at work say, in the food industry or health industry. Need I say why? Do you want me to call OSHA as ask them? No? Thought not. Plus there are (gripe number 3) More "Doggy day" care facilities in town then there are child care facilities, if you really, really cannot leave your dog at home for a two hour meeting, use one of them.
Oh yeah and a conversation that results in you yelling at your dog "no!" every two seconds is not a real conversation, perhaps you could leash your damn dog and pay attention to the humans trying to communicate with you.

I'm working on a keyboard now that I spilled near a gallon of very thick latex house paint on, and after dunking in water, taking it apart, swishing it for a couple days in pails of water, and drying out for a month, it works fine. Sure, some of the keys have a slight blue tinge to them, and some are reinstalled a slight bit crooked, but all the keys still work.
Brimshack, I suggest you take your keyboard apart and clean it.

...Actually, I'm in my work computer now. Unfortunately, my laptop keyboard doesn't seem to admit of an easy fix. The keys are all part of the same pad, so I can't just pop it off and replace the gadget underneath. I think I am going to have to send it in for repair, or just order a new keyboard and give it to the techies at work. Either way it's going to take forever. ...course, I can have fun driving people insane by continuing to type without it.

I spilled tea on my husband's keyboard, I think he's going to kill me. I took part of it apart, but three keys still don't work and I need a super tiny hex key to take the keyboard apart.
Also fuck the guy who charged me a hundred to put my old lenses in new frames, they lasted about two weeks and POP!

I was browsing Netflix to see if they had a copy of Benjamin Britten's Billy Budd for rental (alas, no, but they used to) and saw numerous one-star reviews left by people who wanted to see the 1962 movie and were too careless to check the cast listing, year of performance, or genre to see that they were getting the right one. Needless to say, they blamed their failure on the opera itself for merely existing.
The funniest negative review began:

Tchaikovsky's Yevgeny Onegin is based on the book of the same name by Pushkin!
And Bizet's Carmen? Based on a novella by Prosper Mérimée!
It still doesn't stop! There have been recent operas based on The Grapes of Wrath (Carlisle Floyd), Waiting for the Barbarians (Philip Glass), The Handmaid's Tale (Poul Ruders) and on and on and on!

It'd always piss me off when I'd work in one of those stupidly hostile environments where people would make some big fat point of driving into work in a blizzard or something when there was an accident alert and they were asking people to leave the roads clear for emergency vehicles.
And there'd always be some subset of ineffectual middle management types who'd come into work trying to look all dedicated or something. And their jobs were almost always the type that were easy to do from home. Even if you argue that it's better to supervise people in person, none of their employees would be there, anyway, so ZERO POINT except to fuck things up for the poor slobs who have to be out driving ambulances and snow plows.
Of course, they'd all make a point of showing up all dramatic-like with communicable diseases, too.
