My snow forecast has gone from 9" yesterday morning to 19" last night to 21" this morning. I'm afraid to check it anymore. It's all suppose to start this evening. I guess I will be living my life on the snowblower tomorrow trying to keep up with it.

Yes....it is still fucking cold. However. The fucking stiff wind has slacked.
That means if I have to, I can feed the chix and not have to spend a half hour back inside afterwards convincing my 'nads to come back out.

They keep adjusting our forecast to be colder and longer. It's 5F right now, supposed to go down to -10F tonight, AND MATURIN LEFT WITHOUT HIS HAT OR HIS SCARF, so his little bald head and his big old Dumbo ears, which probably make up like 20% of his total surface area, are just flapping around in the elements!

We're supposed to get 6-10 inches tonight  and the winds are supposed to pick up tommorrow so we're under a blizzard watch then. I would just enjoy watching the snow and cuddling with the ninja but Malloch has to work late tonight so I'm anxious about him making it home.

When I was going through bootcamp in Great Lakes, Illinois; it got down to
-50°F with a windchill of minus 80. Everything froze at that temperature. They put out the black flag and we weren't allowed outside for the entire week. To make matters worse there was no hot water due to the boilers being overburdoned to heat the buildings.
We were a bunch of stinky, hatin' life, freezing our balls off, muther-fuckers!
God I miss the military!

Forecasts here for snow vary from 4" to 10"
The one thing they all have in common is that it's going to be damn cold and windy (20mph to possibly 40mph). 
Right now it doesn't look scary... not one bit. It's not supposed to get nasty til later this afternoon/early evening.
Sounds like this storm is making its presence known all over the place. Fun!

I've been their, one work trip up to Yellowknife it was -46°C, with gods knows what of a windchill. Once it starts dipping below -40, I don't think it really matters if it gets any colder, you just don't want to go outside. they're well equipped for those temperatures at the mines up their though.

I scraped about an inch and a half of hoar frost off a thermometer to see -48°F one cold morning in Wyoming. There was no wind, such was the nature of those high mountain valleys, where he cold air would settle in the bottom of the valley in what they call temperature inversion. It would stay cold and foggy (thus the hoar frost) for days and days or even weeks at a time, until an approaching cold front would bring winds that would scour the cold air out of the valleys. If I had a choice between -48°F with no wind or -10°F with 60 mph wind like it was the winter of 1979-80 in northwestern Oklahoma, I'd choose the former. It is possible to dress for that. Only Inuits and Eskimos know how to dress for the latter. And Walmart didn't have any sealskin parkas.

hey dingfod...while seal skin is used, caribou fur is much warmer. and even the hardy Inuit will wimp out and make shelter when it gets near -60.
a well made caribou fur parka is the warmest thing you'll can put on short of an electrically heated space suit. Custom fit, they layer two parkas together. With the inside parka the fur faces inside, and out on the outer Parker. in between the two layers, they sometimes stuff them with various mosses and grass. seal skin is often used on the outside layer as its more water repellent.
