Re: Gadgetry
This is all so dramatic now.
It was about how the Color Rendering Index score and to a lesser extent color temperature is a factor in how well you can make out detail under a given light, regardless of brightness level.
But I decided it was too splainy.

Ah, but do you mean that you decided too few of us would appreciate the explanation and too many would hate it. Or do you mean it threatened to expose a splainy side of you that you would rather stayed hidden?

Re: Gadgetry
Both flashlights' low mode work fine for seeing - specifically avoiding obstacles in dark areas of our walk and finding dog poop, but I don't think they're working for getting me to be seen by others. The spot isn't visible under the street lamps and it's not a bright spot in darkness.
Of course, I can just turn up the brightness at the cost of battery life - from an estimated 70 hours down to 13. I was expecting to recharge/replace the batteries every couple of months, not every couple of weeks. I'm currently compromising - using the lowest setting for most things, and turn it up when I need it or when someone is driving on our street.

Re: Gadgetry
I bought a cone like this for my flashlight, in order to be seen by others. There's just a short bit of my walk that has no sidewalk, so I just turn it on for that part, and autos give me a wide berth.

Re: Gadgetry
EDC update, because everyone cares and I've made a lot of changes.
On my person, I still have my phone, Fitbit Versa, keys, the mini cleaver and the Style PS. I recently purchased some BLANK FORCES cord locks (basically a fancy zipper pull) and attached one to the Style PS to make it easier to fish out of my watch pocket.
I switched to Airpod Pro 2s for earphones, and they have been working well for me. So much so that I haven't been switching to my bone conduction headphones for bike riding, the passthrough mode works almost as well. I don't feel it affects my situational awareness.
On weekends and evenings, I also sometime carry a larger knife. I put away the Penguin QSP and replaced it with a Rosecraft Ogee flipper that's also cleaver shaped. I like the look, feel, and flipping action of this knife, but I found two problems with it. First, the thumb studs on the blade gets in the way of me sharpening it. Second, it's cheap steel - tool steel from China. This isn't much of a problem for around the house type jobs (cutting up boxes, cutting back some woody plants), but I don't predict having this knife for years.
I think my desire for new knives has flamed out. I have more than one backup once the Rosecraft knife fails and don't feel compelled to buy more at the moment.
I'm still using the Fenix E09R - the rechargeable one - every day. I use the "moonlight" mode for walking the puppies, and the "low" mode for walking the old dog - he needs the extra light. I have recharged it once since February, so I'm happy with the performance.
The backpack I was using for the past year (free work swag!) was actually quite good and useful, but I noticed that it had some wear on it, and decided to try to prove the Sam Vimes "Boots" theory of socioeconomic unfairness. I picked up a Wallace Canvas and leather messenger bag earlier this month. No complaints so far.
Mrs. Reasons bought a iPad mini last year for travel, and she wasn't using it so I stole it. It's now a more useful replacement for my old Kindle Fire. I also added an Apple pencil and have been using it for practicing drawing.
I'm pretty committed to the Apple ecosystem for everyday tech now. It's been working a bit better than my mix. The airpods switch pretty easily between devices, with some glitches, especially switching to and from the Macbook.
My personal notebook cover is getting a bit worn down. The leather is flaking, and now I'm looking to replace that. More useless gadgetry talk to come!

I just backed this project:
Mini Captain's Hook by Oceanus Brass
I don't have a specific need for it, but I'm sure I can find one. I just like this company's style.

Many years ago someone was tossing away a machined brass nitrous cracker. Even though it’s potentially dangerous, a shit way to do nitrous and something I wouldn’t use, I still kept it for several years because it was two solid pieces of machined brass that screwed together in a pleasing away.
