I reverted the OS from 5.3.2 to 5.3.1, which is apparently as far back as you can go without bricking it, then I rooted it and blocked OTA updates. I just can't open the only installation tool that works with it, supposedly.
This model is apparently super brick-prone, so I'm hesitant to just start goofing around to see if I can get something to work. Does anyone know how to just do this manually?

I didn't see any mention of Flashfire in this RootJunky how-to (about a year old, for installing CM12.1:

Re: Miscellany
TWRP only works for earlier versions of the Fire OS than I have on this thing, and one of the things that'll definitely brick the tablet is to revert the OS to anything earlier than what I have on it now.
I'm pretty sure the only option I have at this point is to manually install it without a tool, but I can't find any instructions for that.

PS never mind, I think it's bricked.
It was fine last night, but when I woke up this morning, it was in a boot loop.

Re: Miscellany
I have agreed to go to a 7:30 breakfast lecture on Cybersecurity and Privacy at ALA next month. I've been blaming Mick for it, but Pea also deserves a lot of blame. Believe me, I will be cursing both of you when my alarm goes off.
Oh, and I've been appointed to the Telecomm subcommittee of the Committee on Legislation, which I also blame the two of you for.

Yes, I'm a fucking nerd. These days, I'm an angry, depressed nerd, and now this song is earworming me.

Technically, that's from the third song, "Epitaph". The first song, "21st Century Schizoid Man", is particularly on point, too, though: "Death seed blind man's greed/Poets' starving children bleed/Nothing he's got he really needs/Twenty first century schizoid man." I suspect the lyrics about the Vietnam War from that song will quickly become relevant again too, though.
Anyway, yes, I felt like this album cover is a perfect image for our times, because the lyrics on the album are quite relevant to our times and I believe the album cover reflects how nearly all of us feel right now. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that shortly after I began using it here, Greg Lake died, so maybe that's my fault. Sorry about that. (I had definitely been using it elsewhere before he died, at any rate.)
Also, sorry to Janet as well for dredging up the nightmares.

Oh, well, OK, then.
Also, New Belgium Ranger IPA has been reformulated and renamed "Voodoo Ranger" for god knows what reason.

Genealogy can be fun if someone's done it right. I discovered today that I'm NOT directly related directly to the general who lost Atlanta to Sherman during the Civil War as previously told. Middle names are important to get right, y'all.

It is 8:21AM, that time of the holiday where family and I all pretend that none of us are awake while waiting with bated breath for everyone else to get the hell out of bed. None of us will say a thing about it and nobody will remember who was the last to (openly) leave their rooms.
Apparently Lemon Demon's done things in the last 10 years, who knew.

My daughter gave it to me as a gift a few years ago, when they were having a sale. They tell you what traits you do/do not have genes for, your risk of developing certain health problems, your likely reaction to certain medical treatments, the percentage of your DNA (and number of traits) that you share with Neanderthals. And you can locate probable relatives, if you're interested.

One of my Mormon relatives did a family tree showing that one of our ancestors was Sarah Elizabeth Hatfield (of Hatfield and McCoy fame). This was of particular interest because two of my cousins are also descended from the infamous McCoy family, on the maternal side. So, it was kind of cool that they were descended from both the Hatfields and the McCoys (which helped to explain the dysfunction in that particular family). However, it turns out that our Christopher Columbus Evans ancestor was a different Christopher Columbus Evans than the one descended from Sarah Elizabeth Hatfield. Who would have guessed that there were two different Christopher Columbus Evans. Apparently dates and places of birth and death are also important. Who knew?
