985,375 yep, I was a VIP crewchief, if you can believe that. I got to fly Gen. Shelton around a lot (he became the Joint Chief of Staff under Clinton) and a bunch of other big-wigs.

Re: Countdown from one million thread
Wow, sounds vastly more interesting than my time in the Army. My job consisted of finding creative ways to appear busy when I had literally nothing to do, and the closest I ever came to a bigwig was walking past a 4-star General at a picnic.

Re: Countdown from one million thread
My father was a British Soldier in Egypt after WWII. I once asked him if he ever killed anyone and his eye started twitching and he didn't talk for a couple of days. I never got an answer to that question.

985,368 My dad was in the army in the late 50s/early 60s. He was stationed in Italy, almost never had to wear a uniform, and basically had the run of the dolce vita for 4 years, from what I can detect. Definitely no combat or shooting people during his stint.

Re: Countdown from one million thread
985,360 I liked those movies. I'd rather eat burrs than live in a submarine, though.

Re: Countdown from one million thread
985,359 a while back Widget and I watched the documentary on the russian sub that sank (kursk) and all the men aboard died, and worse they knew they were dying and had time to write notes etc.
I asked Widget what he would write to me if he was stuck, dying on a submarine.
He said
'Wish you were here'

Re: Countdown from one million thread
985,352 forgot to mention I have my CT Scan tomorrow, but at least that will be straightforward and not filled with torture.

Re: Countdown from one million thread
Good luck with the CT Scan! I hope it isn't one of those that strap and keep you motionless for hours kind where your feet, then your legs, followed by your abdomen, and finally your arms go numb and they keep asking you how you are doing as if they don't know the torture you are going through. They turn off the microphone and laugh and laugh and laugh...
Oh
Sorry.
I hope it's not one of those tests!
