Bacon slices are very hard to throw, so you must mean slabs.

Re: Miscellany
Ugh.
I can't get my swap space to go on automatically.
It worked fine until Ubuntu started converting everything to UUIDs, then I guess the UUID changed (which, like, WTF?), so I changed it to the right one, which still didn't work; so I changed it back to the old normal way. It's right and everything, but it still doesn't recognize it automatically, and I have to do the mkswap and the swapon every day when I turn my computer on.
Someone better come over and fix this for me pretty soon. It's not a giant emergency, so I can wait up to a week while you arrange transportation and get time off of work.

Re: Miscellany
Can you put the commands in your source file or whatever? Or is that more of a bandaid than a fix?

Re: Miscellany
Yeah, I could do them automatically at startup, but it would be a bandaid. My fstab isn't working, and that's bugging me. It's not killing me to do that by hand. If I do it automatically, I might just forget about it, and then never figure it out.
At this point, though, I'm just staring at my fstab for a little while every day. Pretty soon, it'll probably get intimidated and start working.

Re: Miscellany
Those are good ideas! I actually just fixed one of the kitchen cabinets last week by writing some swears on a Post It note and sticking it to the door.
It took a couple of days to work, but it was totally cured on Saturday.
So I guess I'm going to go add this line to my fstab and give it a couple of days, then:

I'll be disappointed if you don't submit that kitchen cabinet fixing tip to Heloise.

Re: Miscellany
UPDATE: So that worked even faster than I thought it would. I went to add the swear line to my fstab (I had decided that I should also incorporate 'choad'), and I saw the typo. The typo that I have been staring at really hard every day when I turn my computer on.
So the swears worked before I even put them in!
Apologies to anyone who already bought plane tickets to come out and fix my computer.

Re: Miscellany
I am now one of the Runners-Up for the Comment of the Week on the Comics Curmudgeon blog. I suppose that's minor consolation for the fact that this bastard stole my idea for a hilarious blog. It's all the worse that he stole it before I even had a chance to come up with it. DAMMIT.

Re: Miscellany
My little brudda and his wife just called me from San Francisco, where they're wandering around with a roving band of protestors trying to catch up with the Olympic Torch, but the torch keeps changing route to avoid protestors. They wanted me to see if I could find it for them, but I couldn't tell exactly where it is right now.
Anyways, I am under orders to update them if I find any accurate information about the torch's location, so if anyone knows where I'd get that, let me know. I am kind of running out of ideas.
I hope they don't get tazed or anything. She just got her permanent residency status and they got copies of those ACLU bust cards, so they're all full of beans.

Well, it may be over already after a quick jaunt across the parking lot. The image of crowds of protestors scouring the city in search of the object of their ire is kinda funny, though.

Re: Miscellany
It sounded awesome over the phone.
I guess the China supporters were also busing people in, so both factions are kind of wandering the streets as one big contentious mob.

The Post It note began working the instant I finished installing a new hinge, but we're pretty sure that was coincidental. The note is still in place, both for its curative properties and as a warning to the other cabinet doors.

Re: Miscellany
They just called again, and this time, my brother was repeating the updates to what sounded like a fairly decent sized contingent of people.
You know what that means? That means that, right now, I AM CONTROLLING A THRONG OF ANGRY PROTESTORS IN SAN FRANCISCO, from right here at my desk.
I can hardly even believe how much I rock sometimes!

Why? Is ipecac really that expensive these days that you need a free Web-based alternative?
