I am really irked with Army Newspeak.

I mean, OK. I can perhaps see the reason to change POWs that you capture to "EPW" (Enemy Prisoner of War). I can handle the Alphabet Soup of IEDs. CWIED (Command Wire), RCIED (Radio Controlled), VOIED (Victim Operated i.e. Booby Trap), PPIED (Pressure Plate) and so on and so forth, though they do go overboard (VBIED= Car Bomb, PBIED=Suicide Bomb, SVBIED=Suicide Car Bomb, DBIED=Donkey bomb, etc etc), but really, what was wrong with MIA, which is now "DUSTWUN" (Duty Status, Whereabouts Unknown). Someone got a good bullet on their OER for that one. I also had issue with the names we give the opposition, AIF and AAF.. (Anti Iraqi Forces, Anti Afghan Forces). By and large, they're not anti Iraq or Anti Afghan, they're just anti government, or at least, anti-current-government.

The latest one is the replacement for "KIA". It is now "Hero." At least, where our guys are concerned. There's EKIA for the guys we kill, there's LNKIA for the people caught in the middle, but friendly... No. Just leave well enough alone, damnit.

No, the neighbor wasn't fucking around with a lawnmower. No, that noise was the exhaust fan for our heater. Finally, it stopped making that noise, because it SIEZED UP COMPLETELY. Saving grace: I'd already called the heater service guys. By the time they got there, about three minutes after it siezed up, the buzzing noise of the motor trying to run had correlated itself nicely with the motor being too hot to touch. So our central heat is now off for two days. We scheduled soonest possible repair. (Repair is replacement. Which means I have to come up with $7,870 in two days. Alternatively, I could spend about $1,500 to have a ten or fifteen year old furnace temporarily repaired. This way, I get a much higher efficiency furnace and a tax credit.)

But wait!

I saw the doctor this morning, and they decided to give me a flu shot. Which means that not only is my house rapidly approaching a 40-50 degree (F) temperature, BUT I HAVE A FEVER AND ACHE ALL OVER.

Fuck this.
