Re: Knitting vs. Crochet: The Great Debate
Someone on Facebook called me a "crochet curmudgeon" because I hate granny squares or anything that looks vintage, I refuse to cover things in cozies, I buy my potholders, acrylics are an automatic fail, I won't waste good yarn on yarn-bombing things and all in all I'm worse than the woman that runs that site. It's weird because now that I'm essentially out of business and can make things more slowly for myself again I don't know what to make. I have more sweaters and blankets than anyone in CA could ever need but it feels really strange not to have something to work on.
If I ever get an idea like this I hope that someone puts me out of my misery.

Oh yeah - if any of you that are trying to learn want any free easy vintage patterns just let me know what kind of thing you want to make and I'll see what I have in PDF form. I don't use patterns but I've been able to talk customers through some of these easily in emails.

Are you people still talking about this? I told you I've moved on to paper cranes.

Re: Knitting vs. Crochet: The Great Debate
I just made a dozen plain round cotton mats to go under heavy jars but they're so boring that they aren't even worth taking a picture of. I never make things without lots of color and detail and those were just mindless and blah but at least I won't have to look at them and think of my grandmother. I need a new hobby before the winter rains come because if I can't make sweaters I don't know what I'll do to kill time while I listen to books and I'll have to break down and buy some.

Re: Knitting vs. Crochet: The Great Debate
I switched over to socks since the weather god stupid hot. I couldn't bear the idea of holding a bigass Icelandic wool cardigan in my lap in 90 degree weather.

Re: Knitting vs. Crochet: The Great Debate
I've had been doing pretty well with a sweater business until last January because I took so many custom orders that I ended up crocheting for 10-12 hours a day to get them all done in time and destroyed my wrists. Last summer I was making freaking mohair and wool sweaters as well as a huge wool star quilt blanket in July and August and I thought that I was going to die. I was getting up at 4am so that I had time to work before my hands started to sweat since that's just gross when you're selling stuff. I just have a handful left that will hopefully sell this winter because I can't take custom orders anymore. Selling yarn and patterns is a hell of a lot easier and more profitable anyway.
