Re: WTF happened to Google?
Yay! Somebody created a Facebook account with my Gmail user last night. I reported it to Facebook, checked all of the sites I have associated with the gmail account and changed my password on all my email accounts.
Now I get to wonder if anything else was stolen.

Did they actually confirm the Facebook account, or did you get the confirmation message?
What would anyone have to gain from having a Facebook account with your email address?

Looks like it was confirmed and the person added friends. I checked Gmail, and there are only 2 places in the last 2 days which I accessed gmail from - home and work, so either their logs are inadequate, or someone did this from my home or work PC (at 9PM!).
I was sitting at home at 9PM, and none of my children admit to creating a FB account, nor do I think either have my gmail password.
It is possible that my job's workstation was left unlocked.... I had been using Remote Access earlier, and I'm not sure it always locks the screen properly - I've come into work the next day with my PC unlocked before.

They mostly never did. They encouraged their users to promote their products, and used them as testers, but the actual work was in-house.
I suppose Chrome would be an exception, open source and all that. It's got a BSD license though. Once they don't need the community's free help anymore, Google is within their rights to close the code and only give people binaries.
I just realized something about the way they've promoted some of their products, like google mail. They give out ID's to some people, and allow these people to give out a certain number of free accounts to other people, who give out free accounts to others. This gives google a complete tree from start to finish of how the accounts spread from person to person.

Google+ Not for mature adult content, like flipping people off.

Heh, I accidentally referred to the "7 Pillars of Islam." I used ixquick to confirm it is actually FIVE pillars and received, as the lead result:

Someone sent me Stealth as an alternative to Google, but I have not figured out how to integrate it into Firefox yet.

In the machine learning community it's called a honey pot project.
It's how to get people to do for free what you normally would have to pay money to have done. And you get lots more data strait from the people themselves.
For some reason people today are far more trusting if it's free.

Yeah, I can't find that in the Firefox search engines, but Duckduckgo and Ixquick are both pretty good stealthy search engines too, and they're both available. (Dropdown search engines from the toolbar > Manage Search Engines > Add more search engines)
You could probably also add it yourself if you want.

Just write your own search engine using the CommonCrawl corpus as a data source! Real web searchers roll their own PageRank.

Google faces backlash over privacy changes - The Washington Post
I have been backing off Google for most stuff lately, anyway, but I am still a little comforted that their demographic profile of me is about 100% wrong. Also, every time I go to a Google property without ads blocked, I get shit about criminal attorneys and bail bonds and stuff.

Re: WTF happened to Google?
Do no evil, my ass.
Quote:
Google and other advertising companies have been following iPhone and Apple users as they browse the Web, even though Apple’s Safari Web browser is set to block such tracking by default.
How have they been able to do it? Well, first they made Safari think the user was submitting an invisible form associated with the ad.
That technique allowed the companies to then place a “cookie” – a small text file that is stored on the user’s computer and can be used to track online activities. Google disabled its code after being contacted by The Wall Street Journal.

Safari Cookies is a good add-on for removing such nonsense.

Re: WTF happened to Google?
Google+ just got a redesign that smashed the feed over to one side and added a nice huge blank space for google suggestions. Thanks google for making G+ suck more.
