I used to listen to Art Bell after midnight while sitting out on new gas and oil wells in the middle of the night.

If nothing else, she did a lot to help people with HIV/AIDS. R.I.P.

Her comments during the Iraq War and the Katrina response were a bit callous.
Her offspring left a lot to be desired, not that that's all her fault. Pappy Bush seems to have been the bigger influence on Dubya, while Jeb! was the momma's boy, in which case I guess we should blame Pappy more.
Overall, I'll go with

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
I wasn’t a big fan either, but I didn’t feel it appropriate to air grievances on the day of her death. I reserve that for people like Scalia, Schlafly, and, well, Efraín Ríos Montt. People above have already recapped my biggest criticisms of her, though, so I won’t bother going into further detail.
(I did also appreciate her response to a reporter who criticised her fashion sense – something along the lines of “I have great fashion sense; I’m just not attractive.”)
In any case, The Onion nails it again.
(And, of course, in response to The Onion, there’s an Arrested Development clip for everything.)

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Yeah, honestly, I'm not really all one way or another, but the woman was 92 years old and she died, probably pretty comfortably. It's not tragic or anything, and I don't see wasting time on the death of someone who so casually trivialized so many others'. She deserved to have that one turned back on her.

I had to drill down to get to this one from The Onion:

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Carl Kasell
I knew his voice from Morning Edition, but he really stood out to me when he started announcing on Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me. When that show started, I thought his voice "on your answering machine" was the perfect NPR gift - cheap to produce, but treasured by everyone who won it. I thought being the announcer of that show was a nice retirement job for him.
Until fairly recently, "Wait, Wait... " was still offering his voice on your voicemail as the prize for winning. That's when I knew his health had deteriorated.

R.I.P. Philip Roth. I guess I'll finally read The Plot Against America this year (especially since David Simon is adapting it). May add more when I'm not on my phone, but maybe not - I'm also exhausted.
Philip Roth, seminal author of comical and simmering discontents, dies at 85 - The Washington Post
