How you get 'resentment' from my indifference is beyond me.

#

"I swear on my life it's not hooey."

I think it is...*shrug*...best we simply agree to disagree.

#

"No one is forcing the book on you"

Not today, no...Tomorrow? We'll see.

Hooey can motivate some folks to vast depravities.

I can separate Lessans work, and your defense of it, from you as a person. And I care about people and I am a little worried about your stress levels.

Please stop putting your two cents into what you don't even understand. :(

I do understand the book, because I read it. I regret doing that, but it's true.

Peacegirl, you do have a way of turning a phrase. I was going to say you Davidm and Stephen should compare impressions on flavor, but I decided not to.

Everyone (with any decency anyway) worries about everyone, even people they don't know. It's one thing that makes humanity not a colossal shit pile, what the Greeks called karitas, or charity a transcendent form of love more pure than eros (I know that sounds hippyish but you know what I mean). I'm sure Lady Shea is gratified she no longer has to worry though.

I do think its a bad idea not to get over invested in any one philosophy though no mater how personally you are tied in with it. It's not wise. But then that sounds patronising so I'll shut up.

Well, we have a relationship now after this many posts and months, dysfunctional and adversarial though it may be, so "forget about me" doesn't work.

Also it's really martyrish and histrionic to say that. And LOL at your permission granting, like you're the boss of me.

Seriously, what are you still doing here? What do you think you can accomplish at this point?

Part of your problem is that you do not recognize when someone is trying to help you. In spite of all the criticism there has been a lot of good advice given here but you have consistantly rejected it and lashed back at anyone who didn't automatically accept the book as absolute truth. There have been some here who have tried to advise you as to how better present the book, some have tried to show you what has been discovered and verified on some subjects. You have rejected and denied everything that did not support the book. It's not surprising that you can't understand that LadyShea could care about you as a person, you are so wraped up in the book you can't see anything else, and you are blind to anything that is not in line with the book. Your denial and willful ignorance is the source of all the abuse that you have brought onto yourself, we have only reacted to you out of frustration at your obstinance and refusal to even consider what everyone else was saying. You said it very clearly whan you said, 'you didn't come here to be educated, but to educate everyong else'. Just a bit arrogant on your part, and I'm guessing that may have put some people off.

Lets see, making a fool of myself in your eyes that see efferently, doesn't mean anything, compaired to you making a fool of yourself and Lessans in everyone elses eye that see afferently, and do mean something. Well I've made my choice "of my own free will", FYI everyone I've read the book and I understand it, and it's nonsense.

Wrong Peacegirl, he's almost as funny as you but in a different way. He's funny 'ha ha' - you're funny 'sad'.

There is a great deal of personal variance in how much people worry about other people.

Well to be quite honest you have not been the bearer of any news, at least none that was of any value. Entertaining maybe, but of no real value.

"Everyone (with any decency anyway) worries about everyone, even people they don't know."

No.

YOU may worry about everyone, even people you don't know (and you may -- for yourself -- view this as 'decency'), but not everyone shares your perspective on charity.

For me: compassion is a finite resource...there's only so much of it (and me) to go around.

I reserve mine for those I love...to hell with the rest (at best: the 'rest' get that which costs me nothing, that is, civility).

To me: the indiscriminate expression of 'charity' toward any- and every-one is not 'decency', but instead 'stupidity'.

To each his or her own, I guess.

"Oh, who cares what you think, Quirk! Who asked you to butt in?"

Henry: To me: the indiscriminate expression of 'charity' toward any- and every-one is not 'decency', but instead 'stupidity'.

PG: No one can be that charitable all the time. We have to pick and choose.

PG: I like your honesty Henry. Don't listen to these people who only want their cronies to participate. That's so boring.
