IT'S THIS THRAD autoplaying that Key & Peele sketch. It's happened to me a bunch of times, and I always run around closing all these other tabs, never even suspecting FF.

Re: Because of Amazon Prime...
Do you have a Kindle Fire HD? I got an HDMI out cord for like 20.00 and use it to stream to the TV. The Amazon app on both the Blu Ray and the XBox are super laggy, but the Fire is almost always well buffered. I only occasionally have problems with it.
Theoretically, you can use the Amazon Instant Video app on your iPhone or iPad if you have an AV output for it too.

Re: Because of Amazon Prime...
Apparently, you can't stream Amazon videos on Chromecast because they're planning to offer their own dongle. (Heh. Dongle.)
Will theirs also retail at $35?

Damn, do we need to get HDMI dongle squids now? That's so much better than just having one dongle that plays everything. Heh, dongle.

Here’s Amazon’s Homely New Gaming Controller | TechCrunch
Holy crap, that's awful. Good job, Amazon, you made the Xbox controller less ergonomic, and crammed some Android buttons onto it.

Re: Because of Amazon Prime...
I'm also happy to pay more for Prime after many years of static pricing. That being said, I've noticed that the "upgrade to next-day for $3.99" option hasn't been showing up on anything I order anymore. Not sure if that's coincidental based on my purchases or a conscious decision on their part. Having had a 42" flat-panel TV shipped overnight for $3.99 it wouldn't surprise me if it were the latter.

Re: Because of Amazon Prime...
So I am now watching Veronica Mars (yes, I watch old shows you all were into back when), and have been so fucking bothered trying to figure out where I recognize Jason Dohring from, and why I remember him as evil. I've looked at his IMDB rap sheet, and the only place it could possibly be was one episode of Lie to Me. I plan to rewatch the ep to see if that's it...if it is, then DAMN he must be a good actor for my brain to stick him in there p. good. If not then I might go insane.
ETA: yep, it was Lie to Me, Beat the Devil

Re: Because of Amazon Prime...
I need to see that episode. I've heard he was good in it and loved his work in Veronica Mars.

Re: Because of Amazon Prime...
I thought Kiddo might find Dickens more accessible watching the David Copperfield miniseries with Daniel Radcliffe and Maggie Smith...boy was I right. His interest and absorption exceeded my minimal expectations, and he begged to stay up watching more even as he was crying from the Dickenseness of it all.

Re: Because of Amazon Prime...
I have been abusing my mother's Prime login during my lunch hours lately. Mostly I've been watching episodes of Blackadder to keep up with the TV Club Classic reviews. Today I decided to explore their recommendations for me and was delighted to find Dirk Gently available. I loved the books and had never had a chance to watch the series.
I didn't get all the way through the pilot today, but will finish tomorrow. So far I'm not sure how I like it. I think Dirk is portrayed a bit too aggressively, but it's been years since I read the books. Mostly I love the almost pornographic shots of tea being brewed and poured. Very appropriate for Douglas Adams.

I've been binge watching Foyle's War. The last couple of seasons are only available for rent, dammit, so I'm almost done.

I liked Foyle's War quite a bit. In a similar vein, and about same era, you might want to watch Island at War, a six episode mini-series about a Channel Island under Nazi occupation.

Keep it on your watchlist, it'll go Prime eventually
I watched Parade's End recently. I don't know what I think about it, but it was entertaining enough to watch.
Watched The Escape Artist (David Tenet mini series) and totally fucking dug it.
Now watching Single Handed, an Irish cop show. So far very good.
They are showing Extant on Prime 4 days after it airs on the TV, which is a cool thing to do*, IMO, and I like the show too.
*I hated that I had to watch Hannibel on NBC's awful site and app, so I stopped and will have to catch up when it goes free on Prime.

I loved Parade's End. I watched it when it first aired on HBO and found myself thinking about it regularly for weeks afterwards. I got the Blu-Ray for Christmas last year and promptly watched it again, this time with subtitles so it was a whole new experience. (Benedict says "she's bitched me" about his wife entrapping him with the pregnancy!)

I've been watching Misfits too, on Hulu.
I was also a little surprised, mostly because the description I saw made it sound like it was a drama or something and didn't mention the special magical powers part. I did watch the first season, but I'm not sure I care enough to watch more.
(I should start a Hulu Plus thread, I guess, but I don't know if anyone else has that.)

Is that the one narrated by the guy who was the lead detective for like a dozen seasons of Midsomer Murders? I read an interview with him where he complained that everyone on Jersey hated his ass for bringing unwanted attention to its ugly collaborationist history.

I keep thinking about it too. There's some complex values competing there, so it requires thinking. That's good.

Probably, but I had not heard of their objections. I don't think the people there had much of a choice but to cooperate with their occupiers, to make the best of a bad situation, it was that or prison camp, or even execution. There was plenty of sabotage and passive resistance that went on. Construction of the bunkers still in place there today took a lot longer than the Germans would have liked. Fortunately for the Channel Islanders, there was no Gestapo there, or it could have been a lot worse. It's an interesting bit of wartime history. The last Germans to surrender were the occupiers of Jersey and Guernsey, they had been isolated from resupply and out of communications since D-Day but still did not believe that Germany had surrendered.

Pea never did start that thread so I'm waking this one up.
I discovered Misfits over my long Christmas weekend and watched it up until that one guy left the series. I tried a few episodes after that but just couldn't cotton to the character that replaced his.
But the main reason the show stayed with me is the British accent and its many flavors. I had to use closed captioning so I could understand what was being said, especially with the Kelly character. I often wished Leesifer was watching it with me so she could explain some of the slang they used. Google wasn't always helpful.
Anyway, good show, if a little heavy on the sex and the bad language and the filth. (I'm ordinarily no prude but cheese!)

Re: Because of Amazon Prime...
I've been binge-watching FX's Justified series on Amazon Prime. There are a few other actors from Deadwood beside Timothy Olyphant in it too. It was good to see character actors Jim Beavers and W. Earl Brown again. Olyphant stars as Deputy United States Marshal Raylan Givens, a dead ringer for his taciturn Deadwood character Sheriff Seth Bullock.

Re: Because of Amazon Prime...
Longish story, but I came home from a conference in Chicago at 11:30 Monday night to find my furnace off and my house a balmy 39°. Fortunately, my sister had given me a space heater for my cold second floor a few weeks earlier. I put it in my bedroom, closed the door, piled my Hudson's Bay blanket on top of my quilt and went to sleep. In the morning the room was nice and toasty, but the rest of the house was still an ice box.
Since the TV room was cold, I pulled up Prime on my Ipad and discovered they had The White Queen. I have it on my Netflix queue and have been hoping for the library to buy it, so I was pretty pleased. I didn't much like The Kingmaker's Daughter when I read it. Partly because I think making a female version of history by attributing all the male figures' bad decisions to the women in their lives is iffy at best. And partly because the breathtakingly stupid ending tainted all that came before.
I'm enjoying the TV show, though, and I realize I should probably like Gregory more than I do. The reason is that Warwick is the only male character in any of this who she allowed to retain his agency and actions. The Countess of Warwick barely gets any screen time and certainly doesn't advise, much less control, Warwick like Elizabeth Woodville does Edward. As a devoted Warwick fan, I'm loving that, but it's still stupid more often than not.

Oh hai Janet! I have been obsessively watching this on my Kindle since Monday. I am kinda all about the sets and costumes and jewelry...the soap opera is a nice escape from winter borings.
I hate February.
