That makes me unreasonably angry for some reason. :bravo:

Re: Maps are fun, so is food.
The Ukraine thread made me think of this old map:
(from @loverofgeography on Instagram, based on a 2015 Gallup survey)
The map shocked me at first in a "WTF Western Europe?!?" way, until I realized people were interpreting the question differently in different countries; I suspect the some were seeing it more in a "join the military and fight wars anywhere" [aggressive] vs. a "defend my country if it is invaded" [defensive] view.

Ha, from that same @loverofgeography page, THIS!
It drives me so nuts when Brits say "Half six" WITHOUT THE *PAST* BIT and yet mean 6.30, not 5.30.
Also, pay no heed to Iceland surreptitiously sneaking up on France.

I'm thinking the numbers in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania might be a bit higher now.
Denmark is understandable, no one wants it.

We aim to drive people nuts.
How do you feel about Brits who say "'alf six"?

The Baltic states continue to puzzle me. I mean, it is possible there is the aggressive/defensive confusion, but I doubt it. So how much of that is
a) down to already having been lorded over by the Russians just a few decades ago and it might thus have reached a certain nostalgia status,
b) being NATO members and thinking their Big Brother will beat up the bullies for them or
c) the very reason they were annexed by the Soviet Union in WWII in the first place.
Denmark is almost certainly a combination of "Western Europe is safe" and b (from above), with a bit of d) "we're Vikings so no-one will attack us" without realizing that was some time ago and not even that reputation or muscle mass last forever. But yeah, who wants to occupy a sand bank?

Equally annoying as "Half six", as long as they can pull off dropping their aitches believably. If it comes off as fake they are actually even more annoying.
I am glaring directly at Oscar Isaac as I type that.

I saw a mock Hagar the Horrible comic some time ago, cannot find it, but the panels went:
MURDER, PILLAGE
~1000 years later~
Two smiling clean shaven dudes clinking coffee mugs in an IKEA.

So the map could be 1:1 with the territory? Cool.
