As a senior in high school, my grammar skills placed me in the 99th percentile. That won me 0% friends.

You can get banned for saying "accept" when you mean "except"
srsly, in addition to illegal shit, you can get banned for

I think around the time I arrived someone got banned for posting whole articles and/or failing to properly attribute, and not stopping when told to stop/start proper attribution?

Worth pointing out that
1) same applies to lesser penalties such as post editing
2) stuff that tends to attract floods of trolls gets moved to The Cloaca (not indexed by search engines) under the "impairs the functioning" guideline
3) same applies to other posters who may aggressively disagree with you; there is no protection from consequences in the form of other posters' speech
4) there is a rarely used precedent for banning someone who makes the whole place so toxic that it "impairs the functioning"
Since TheoObs asks, though, I am curious as to if they have an experience of being banned at other places, and what sort of material that was for.

IIRC such stuff has usually been illegal shit (copyright breach) or spam (flooding with cut'n'paste).

Probably yes. All this is somewhat theoretical since the admins are nowhere to be seen and the extreme mods really only ban new spammers.

That was a great read. A rare case of explaining a joke improving it, though in this more correcting the joke. Speculatively.
Also, agglutinating is a great word.

Interesting thread on colonization from an ethnic Turkic person from a place in Russia I'd never heard of before.

Oh man. It'd be great to be able to say: Sorry, boss. Making beer.

Related to Ostracon - Wikipedia:
Quote:
An ostracon (Greek: ὄστρακον ostrakon, plural ὄστρακα ostraka) is a piece of pottery, usually broken off from a vase or other earthenware vessel. In an archaeological or epigraphical context, ostraca refer to sherds or even small pieces of stone that have writing scratched into them. Usually these are considered to have been broken off before the writing was added; ancient people used the cheap, plentiful and durable broken pieces of pottery around them as convenient places to place writing for a wide variety of purposes, mostly very short inscriptions, but in some cases very long.
|
and
Quote:
In Classical Athens, when the decision at hand was to banish or exile a certain member of society, citizen peers would cast their vote by writing the name of the person on the shard of pottery; the vote was counted and, if unfavorable, the person was exiled for a period of ten years from the city, thus giving rise to the term ostracism. In some cases, the shards would be used at latrines, to wipe off feces from the anus, to impose a curse on, or disrespect an exiled individual.

Another tradition I think technically nothing stops us from following now.
