No, I closed the door and Mrs. Reasons put them into their crate until I was done. I cleaned up after myself, but it wasn't too messy.

I haven't been feeding the crows as much, I love the juveniles but they are really squawky and I didn't really want to get labeled as the main reason for the early morning squawking, but I have been dropping some assorted nuts when I can.

I've been watching some corvid researchers and really wish they were easier to individually identify, maybe something for the AI. The parents have gotten used to me, when out walking I'll move out of the way to let them pass, and occasionally they'll move out of my way, I'm not sure if we're friends but they trust/tolerate me within stepping on distance, unfortunately I don't always know it's the local parents I'm walking by until they either step aside or fly away.

I've considered sitting outside for awhile to try and get some photos but my inability to perch in a tree 30ft up really limits my ability to hang with them in their favorite spots.

Would they accept you building a tree house nest?

Sadly my little balcony isn't really big enough for a bird house along with plants and the few dozen spiders that live among them. I also have pigeon netting up, or as I've dubbed it, The Gauntlet! The 2 inch squares are just the right size for baby spiders to spin their first web, but any baby that spends too long on the netting ends up as food for humming birds who come along and slurp them up, stealing their webbing for their nest.

My place is about level with the tree tops, which has been great to watch their little interactions but also juvenile crows begging for food sounds quite a lot like someone screaming while also gasping for breath while having water slowly poured on them.

View past the netting, (I can't complain).

I woke up at around 3.30 with one of those intense neckaches that won't let me turn my head, so no chance of sleeping after that and looks like at least the rest of the week is mapped out for me in self-pity as these muscle pains take multiple days to ease away.

Trying stretches all morning but they are mostly just making me hurt and angrier at myself. I will try a hot water bottle next, though they are unwieldy for warming up bits of a person, now I wish I had one of those microwavable grain bags.

I’ve been posting here and there but also have been at the hospital since Wednesday morning when my step dad had a heart attack. At first it was grim. But then he surprised us and actually woke up! They were talking about moving him to a skilled facility when he had a set back. Active bleed in his aorta. Still he’s going strong cognitively. My siblings and I made the decision to place him so not resuscitate and do not intubate status. He has survived heart failure and sepsis in the past but after reviewing his living will we came to that decision this am.

Right now he is crabby and feels like shit but he is NOT missing the Chiefs game tonight. We could not figure out why he kept perking up and asking what time it was, as he’s had a sore throat since being extubated. Now we know it was because the game was coming on.

His goal was to make it to his 50 wedding anniversary and also age 80, which both have happened. My siblings and I are encouraging his next goal to be watch the Chiefs win a third consecutive Championship. Positive thoughts are appreciated and if you are the praying kind, even better.

Having a DNI/DNR is in many ways a kindness, for them and for you and your family. Wishing you the best.

We had a customer report a performance issue and I got to look at some profiles, and I think I've fixed their problem.

For a synthetic workload sorta similar to their problem, it took about 30 seconds to run, and then after that it would actually take longer to run, at least up to a minute and 40 seconds, and possibly longer than that.

After I made my changes, it took about 5 seconds to run and didn't slow down.

Hoping this works on the real workload too. :)

Default Re: What's up with you?

My son was born a few days ago. My wife had to have an emergency c-section. As far as traumatic experiences in my life go, this was somewhere in the top 3.

A few nurses came in a few hours after contractions started and started moving her around in different positions. They weren’t saying anything so we both thought “uhh okay I guess the baby is coming out?” Then suddenly the charge nurse said, “she needs to have a c section now”.

I have never felt that much dread in my life. My chest immediately dropped and I entered a state of shock. Some worst case scenario thoughts entered my mind, which I pushed away because it was too painful to think about. It felt like I entered a dream, I also felt the same feeling after I was T-boned by a drunk driver and moderately injured. Her mom was also in the room and she started having a panic attack.. It wasn’t helping that nobody was fucking telling us anything, and the staff were also a bit panicked.

Aside from the mental trauma, it was interesting to see them work. A dozen doctors and nurses appeared out of nowhere, took them maybe 60 seconds to unplug the bed and roll her to the OR. Took them less than 60 seconds to wash hands and gear up and prep the operating area.

Someone helped me don operating clothes. I remember seeing 2 med students observing. They let me sit by her head and be with her. She was on fentanyl and morphine and felt nothing thankfully. They put up a drape so I couldn’t see anything which was good. I held her hand and caressed her and told her I’m here and I love her. She didn’t say anything other than, “no” when the anesthesiologist asked her if she’s in pain and stared straight up. A few people asked me if I was okay, I kind of wasn’t, but I joked and said don’t worry about me, you got someone sliced open right here.

I think it only took them 2-3 minutes to cut her open and pull the baby out which is incredible. The relief upon hearing my son cry was hard to describe. It felt like my soul re-entered my body. I realized everything was okay and I wasn’t going to witness my wife or son die that day. My wife silently cried.

I think I remained in a dreamlike shock for a good 30-45 minutes. Throughout the day a few people told us we did so good in the OR. Later we learned my son’s heart rate dropped rapidly when they were monitoring him probably as a result of her intense contractions and the opiates. Not sure, nobody really told us the details, and his heart tests were all good.

I didn’t sleep much the next 2 nights, images and sounds from that day kept vividly replaying in my head.

I hope Mom and baby are doing well.

It sounds like despite the panic and shock you did do well — you didn't fuck it up for the people tending to your wife & baby. Good luck! Enjoy fatherhood!

I drive a late model Honda . It’s old but reliable as Hondas tend to be Monday a.m. I go out to start it. Nothing. Okay dead battery whatever. I waken my husband to tell him I need a ride to work. On the way, he implies I left something on. And by imply I mean he said “ What did you leave on?”. Which
I said nothing and rather emphatically.

So he pops the hood today thinking it needs a quick charge. And the battery is GONE. Stolen. I hate people. And they cut a cable, too.

My reaction: “ I TOLD you I didn’t leave anything on!”

I underestimated how much work is required to take care of a newborn or infant. Very grateful for family members helping out, not everyone has that support.

Default Re: What's up with you?

After a big round of cleaning dishes and jars without gloves I've managed to remove all my finger prints. You would think this would be a perfect time to do some crime but I'm also absurdly clumsy, often with small things that just slide out of my smooth fingers.

Fingerprints, you don't realize what you have until they're gone!
(Luckily they grow back.)
