Today, laid out weed barriers (which the weeds gleefully grow upon) and planted cucumbers and zucchini. Got barked at by the neighbor's dog. Took out the trash. Got a roll of burlap from my sister. It was cluttering her storeroom. Now I have adopted it and it will clutter my storeroom.

Planted tomatoes. Used a rake to smooth out the soil. Did an impression of Sideshow Bob. You know which scene.

Planted broccoli and kale. 24 plants total. Another 24 left to plant. Raked the open section. Did another impression of Sideshow Bob.

Drove to the local Aladdin's restaurant and got carryout. Ate and watched Columbo on DVD.

Put new batteries in the electric fence that surrounds the garden.

Got back online on the work laptop.

The last vapors of vacation evaporated quickly. I moved a lot of pixels around. Anyway it was billable work so there's that.

Finished planting the garden. 16 seedlings from some variety my wife calls "Audrey".

Watered everything.

Now I am infesting internet forums and Twitter and Facebook.

Or taking a nap. Now I think of it, that seems a worthy goal.

Removed chimney for the old pot belly stove in the house that we haven't used in 20 years and aren't going to use. I figure its primary use now would be burning the house down. Getting siding put on the house and that chimney would have been an issue.

Removed an old gas line vent pipe from the other side of the house. It was connected to nothing. Plugged the hole with a 1" dowel.

Started cutting out the stumps of some shrubberies ("Ni!") that had gotten too large--they had been planted right next to the house maybe 40 years ago, I dunno--I had cut them back but they didn't thrive. Started with a hand saw. Then I got the power saw (not a chain saw) and cut what I could. Now I will get a cart and tote the remains ("Bring out your sticks!") out to the woods.

Moved stuff away from the back end of the house. Still more to move.

I still need to get the weed trimmer and trim the verge without dropping any eaves.

Cleared off the dining room table - it tends to collect books, CDs, cats

Unloaded and loaded the dishwasher

Dusted the coffee table

Just getting clutter out of the way and off the counter really makes a difference

Trimmed the verge with a weed trimmer. Definitely did not drop any eaves about any rings. Raked up several loads of leaves that I hadn't bothered with until now. Pulled out several lush burdock, is it? Oliphaunt ears, we used to call them, along with some poke. Yeah, my "flower beds" are your basic "LOL WUT?" quality. Found an old Sesame Street "Bert" toy my kids must have thrown out a window many years ago. I should mow the back field but I haz a tired. I think it is almost Nap o'clock, Eastern.

I washed and dried the cats' Most Favorite Blanky. One of the boys had thrown up on it. It's clean, and floofy, and warm again.

Today I didn't do much beyond driving into work and . . . well, working. Yesterday, though, I walked Ruthie the Dog and cleaned up the multitudinous pine cones one of our trees regularly deposits on the street and sidewalk. Finally starting to come back from that goddamn busted patella.

Spent the morning troubleshooting our power circuit to the RV, which also is the power source for our network connection. Something was causing the breaker to trip every few hours. It basically feeds the garage, and the RV power supply, and the field lighting that illuminates the driveway.
Long story, short, we finally narrowed it down to the breaker, itself, which is breaking.
A trip to the Hardware store tomorrow.
Hooked up the network to feed off my cell phone HotSpot and checked in with the world out there. Got into a good discussion, only to be interrupted by the US Weather Service.
The evening was loaded with Tornado and flood warnings.
Well, crap.

So we start gathering up the kids, and the grandkids, and the critters and get them all headed to the cellar.

The Mrs sits down at the dining table says she ain't going down there. With the walker, trying to make it down the stairs is more than she wants to deal with. She's just tired and isn't going to put up with this crap, anymore.
So, I help herd the grandkids and their parents down the steps, and make sure they are all accounted for, along with seven cats and two dogs, and go out and shut the shelter door, and back in the house, fill my coffee cup, and it down at the table with her. If we're going, we're goin' together.

A few hours later, all the storms have moved on, and we only lost two trees.
The kids and pets are all accounted for, tucked in and off to sleep, the Mrs is settled in and I topped off my coffee with a bit of Maker's Mark, and am wrapping up for the night.

G'night, Y'all.

Update to the power problem. It wasn't the breaker. The thing got to where it was popping the breaker in seconds after I reset it.
I opened up the power receptacle that fed the RV. We have these critters here called "Millers", that are a type of Moth. They're the adult stage of a Cutworm that feeds on Wheat and other grains.
These suckers seem to be able to get into anywhere. I found 30 their dead carcasses inside the power receptacle, along with dust and grime, all soaking wet. That was enough to short out the receptacle.
So, replacing the receptacle seems to be the solution. Much easier and safer than replacing the Breaker.
Off to the Hardware store. [sigh]
