Re: Facebook, Amazon and Firefox
So people are seeing some kind of thing on amazon dot com where they can do volunteer proofreading for amazon dot com, and they think that's a reasonable thing to do. To volunteer free proofreading to amazon dot com?
I get that maybe they think they're helping the authors, but even if that were the case, and it were the authors requesting this instead of amazon dot com, "LOL My mother was a proofreader, so it is my mission to undermine professional proofreaders by providing my own amateur proofreading services for free."
There are actual charitable organizations that need volunteers, and instead people are volunteering for amazon dot com.

Re: Facebook, Amazon and Firefox
OK, so if you have any of those godforsaken Amazon devices and yet somehow are not OK with having the wealthiest man on the planet mooch your bandwidth, and you don't trust when Amazon tells you they're not going to snoop on your data, you may want to turn off "Amazon Sidewalk," as it's rolling out enabled by default.
What Is Amazon Sidewalk... And Why Is It On Your Echo Smart Speaker
Or don't, if you want to help grease up that slippery slope.

Re: Facebook, Amazon and Firefox
I had to update the Alexa app to shut it off. If you are running an older version the option to disable Sidewalk isn't even there.
Not sure how this is supposed to "simplify" reconnecting my dots and echoes when they lose connection to my router, one of the supposed "selling points" of letting Sidewalk run. My speakers lose connection fairly regularly but then they reconnect on their own after a minute or two.
Alexa insists she isn't spying on me either, but then she gets really defensive when I confront her her about it.

Re: Facebook, Amazon and Firefox
Echo 4th gen...
Is it a receptacle for Sargon?
Or a Romulan cloaking device?
Both, probably.

Re: Facebook, Amazon and Firefox
I've been unable to activate my Echo on the Airbnb host's network for some reason, so I've had to pick up my phone every time I want to know the outside temperature, hear music, look up the definition of a word, or find out the hours a shop is open. I had forgotten how hard life is for some people.

Re: Facebook, Amazon and Firefox
The Australian government wants tech companies to negotiate with news companies over payments for content shared on tech company sites. So Facebook decided to bar news from being shared in Australia. Only they cast the net way too wide, and blocked government websites during the vaccine rollout. as well as other government pages, charity websites, satire sites etc. Oh, and one of Facebook's own pages about itself.
