I had been noticing for some time that it hurts when I throw the oversized tennis ball for Hank the Corgi-dog to fetch, but I didn't realize exactly how fucked up my shoulder is until yesterday afternoon. I tried to make a basketball goal from the free throw line. It hurt so much I pulled up short and whiffed the basket. I'm going to ask my physician for that referral to the orthopedic surgeon.

Well, last night I had an idea that actually helped. I wrapped a heating pad around it and went to sleep. I didn't want to turn it on all night so I left it off, but when I woke up aching I just hit the switch to low and it helped. I also slept in my heavier duty wrist brace which was not a success. Woke up realizing it was too tight and when I took it off the blood returning to the wrist hurt a bit. Still, it wasn't quite as numb in the morning so I think I'll stick with the heat.

I been a bad Bort.

I haven't majorly upgraded my desk system in a very long time. I'm still running Core2 Duo and everthing! But that's not what is bad. What is bad is as follows:

Though it's a little dated for high end newer games, my system had been doing well enough for all the things I've been doing. And then alla sudden, my computer randomly shuts down on me! But I detected (because I am clever) that it only happens when I'm running a hoggy game. (Oddly enough, FlatOut2 isn't hoggy I can run that all day. Running City of Heroes in demo mode does, and as I have also discovered ESOb is as well.)

So I begin googling the web for things and stuff. I have an idea of what may be my troubles, so I point myself in that direction and go. I begin checking for optimal and max temperatures for my gpu and cpu. After I get a monitor on my pu's, I see that my cpu is totes maxing out on me. So I'm all :ohnoes: have I borted it completely? How much money am I too spend on this!? :freakout:

So, there I go taking the case off and inspecting everthing. I run a vacuum as best I can in there but that solves nothing. So I take an closer look and I see all the bunnies done dusted up my heat sink. I mean, terrors of IT level. (Okay, maybe not that bad, but a firm layer that 100% covers between the fan and the sink.) I then hunt around the house for some canned air, but there is none to be found! :cryeyesout:

My roommate has a solution, though. An fortunate for me as I have important things to do! He hands me some micro attachments and the great big shop vac that blows and sucks and I move the dust from my computer to the air, toot suite.

I get everything just so and recheck the temperatures and it's right where it should be.

:unundies:

So, reminder fellow :ff:ers. Clean out your computer if it's been a while.

I am rental shopping in the greater Santa Cruz area. Nothing is for sure yet, but we're narrowing stuff down. Dog-guardians, is there any trick to spotting the truly dog-friendly and truly dog-hostile owners?

Check out this fucking bathroom:

Default Re: What's up with you?

I'll be honest. I take my pups with me to look at properties.

For full disclosure, I did this before I had an actual pack and it was just Dante. Your two little pups shouldn't make anyone bat an eye, really. If I showed up with the full gang these days a realtor would think I was crazy. So I would just bring Dante if I had to do it today.

He stopped me before we rented a third floor walk up that was too high for him. Second floor fine with Dante, third floor, not so much. There was a HUGE rental for cheap that just plain gave him the willies, so it was probably a murder house or built on an burial ground or something. [See American Horror Story*]

I say, bring them if you can and look them in the eye. You will know if the property is dog friendly. If your pups are still in Georgia, borrow someone's.

I also say this after my bro and SIL had to move with two weeks notice after being evicted because of their bulldog in LA. He was no issue and even went to work with her during the day as a nanny dog. The property manager knew him and gave him biscuits. Yet when it came down to brass tacks because of a complaint, they had to find a new place in two weeks time because ... well assholes be assholes.

Take pictures while looking at properties with the representative and the dog in frame and have it timestamped on facebook or something. If you can.

Because dog haters can suck it.

Good luck finding an awesome place.

ES, try to find renter's insurance with dog liability coverage now, so you can tell landlords you will have it once you have a lease. That should be helpful.

My mom is a landlord and has had to start requiring this, because she could be held liable for any damage or injury caused by her renter's dogs if something happened.

My laptop dies a few minutes after switching on. Unless the fan comes on, which it usually doesn't because it is a lazy and ungrateful fan.

I thought: excuse to buy a new laptop!

And then I thought: or I could buy a new fan for £8.75.

Speak for yourself, Mr Crumblebottom.

This a replaceable part. Not interchangeable at all. Laptops don't go for that kind of thing, except (grudgingly) for hard drives and RAM.

Man, I can be suckered into anything. You wouldn't believe the number of UPS deliveries I've had at my door this month and most of them have been in the past week. Someone take away my credit card!!

But it's not just money I'm giving away for free. The Red Cross managed to talk me into donating platelets again. That's right, I'm giving away lending out my life's blood here.

I think y'all should, too. Think of the cancers!

So that's money and blood products I'm giving away this month.
Anybody want some piss?

I have a computer dusting related thing up with me right now.

I have a fresh can of air that I used to dust some stuff the other day. I have never huffed, and I never plan to, but THE BITTERANT IS GIVING ME HUFFING IDEATIONS.

It's this heady mix of curiosity about what the bitterant would taste like, plus how much I hate anyone telling me what I can or can't do.

To be very clear, I am NOT going to huff that and I am not kidding. But I AM going to think about it a lot.

Mrs. Reasons had her last day at her current job Friday. She received confirmation of her temporary license in Washington State, and so now needs to show up in new clinic to start by Jan 27th. The drive is maybe 2 days or so in good weather so I think that means she leaves on Wednesday. I get to be a "single parent" until the end of the school year.

In some ways, it should be easier than the move to Louisiana. After all, I've got a teen and a preteen rather than a preschooler and a toddler.

I have yet to decide when to tell work what exactly this means. It's not like they won't notice the shift in my behavior - I will have to shift my normal work hours. The truth is, I don't know exactly what it means, and besides the time changes and a few extra days off, it won't mean anything to my bosses for at least 4-6 months. After that, the future is less certain.

I'm not sure reality has hit the kids yet - can't wait for that emotional wall to run into!

Food poisoning. What's up with me are the contents of my stomach.

It's my own fault. I had a suspicion that the pasta dish was starting to go bad, but rationalized my misgivings and ate some anyway. Bad idea for a meal, but a great idea for a low-budget Exorcist remake.

ETA: It probably wasn't the leftover pasta, but the professionally prepared dinner I had last night instead. I got a meal at Boston Market and I think the creamed spinach is the culprit, which is slightly worrying because if it has taken two of us so poorly, what is it doing to other poor bastards who bought the same thing?

Fan ordered finally arrived. Fan moves freely, vastly different from old rusty fan.

Me finally found time to open laptop, remove old fan and fit new one, despite realising that the many instruction videos for replacing the fan on my exact laptop model are in fact generic ones that don't even have the fan in the right place and that end with the message "we are working hard to create videos for your exact model", which I believe to be an outright lie.

Switch on laptop. No fan. No fan noise, system reports fan at 0RPM. Laptop overheats.

Bugger. :sadcheer:

Maybe there's an extra wire I missed connecting.

Open up laptop, find that I didn't connect any wires at all, so fan has no power and laptop has no way of knowing there's a fan there.

Connect plug.

Switch on laptop. Fan runs at full speed, a smooth and efficient noise. Laptop remains cool even when running "stress" utility. Delightful. :cooloff:

Fan runs at full speed, according to sound and air flow. System reports 0RPM. Clearly something is still not connected or otherwise borked. Not bothered though. :D

I am in Insomnia Danger Zone.

I can weather one or two days of not getting enough sleep as long as I get at least five or six hours on the third day. But I am now running on about three hours sleep for the past three nights, and I have already accidentally punched Zsa Zsa in the nose and stepped on Flossy's foot twice, and it takes me about three tries to pick anything up.
