Re: What's for Dinner?
I've decided I love chicken tikka masala and butter chicken.

Re: What's for Dinner?
I kind of thought it was like spring, so I made eggplant and feta pizza and chop salad for friends' dinner yesterday, and we're working on the leftovers.
But it's supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow, so I'm going to make black eye pea and collard green soup with ham bone tomorrow, I've decided.
The ninth of May, the ninth of May, snow and soup for dinner on this day!

Shakshouka!
I wasn't even going to make dinner tonight, but I'm hungry, we have the ingredients, and we haven't had that in a while.
I'm p. excited about shakshouka right now.

I'm going to take credit for giving you the idea, because I posted a year ago about making shakshuka.
btw, the recipe from the NYT that I used is here: Shakshuka With Feta Recipe - NYT Cooking
I made it again last week.

Re: What's for Dinner?
I've been making it longer than that, I know, because I remember it wasn't too long after Matlock came out here I made an Americanized version called "eggs in purgatory" or something, and everyone was like OK that's kind of weird. That NYT recipe is much better, but it's better even yet with smoked paprika instead of sweet and a LOT more, and with hot peppers (I prefer Fresno peppers, but jalapenos are good too) in with the garlic. And parsley instead of cilantro. I'm the only one who even likes cilantro. The NYT recipe is way better than "eggs in purgatory," though, to be sure.
My favorite thing about it is that I normally have the stuff for it when I haven't been to the store in a while.

Re: What's for Dinner?
I much prefer cilantro to parsley, but I'm also the only one who really likes it (ironically, I used to hate it). I also have the spiciest/smokiest taste. But it still tastes good not being particularly spicy. It does suggest serving it with hot sauce.

Re: What's for Dinner?
LOL day before yesterday, we ordered pizza. Then yesterday, Mabel and I went to a little Mexican place she'd heard about for lunch and accidentally ate too much food so I didn't make dinner. Also, they accidentally brought me a horchata instead of the watermelon agua fresca I'd ordered, and I was like, "Horchata is fine," but holy heck, I am more lactose intolerant than I like to admit, so I was pretty queasy later. It was gooood, though, apart from the horchata. And the horchata was good in the moment.
Then tonight, Mabel and I went out for pho, and she brought me some tamales she bought OFFA FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE. So that's what we're going to have tomorrow. Facebook tamales.
I haven't cooked in days and days, and I'm feeling like a jerk for that, but at least I am a fat jerk.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Horchata isn't necessarily supposed to have any dairy in it though It should generally just be rice milk.

Re: What's for Dinner?
The only times I've seen dairy free horchata, it's advertised as dairy free or vegan. It is rice based, but there's milk in it by default in my experience, almost always regular whole milk, sometimes with condensed milk or cream as well.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Guys, I cannot believe how good babby's first kimchi turned out. It's not the universal best kimchi in the world, obviously, but it is really really good, and it's how I like it.
So last night, I made kimchi pancakes with an orange dipping sauce, mixed sauteed greens, and some small ham steaks. (A while back, the store had hams for like fifty cents a pound, so I bought some and tried to cut them into steaks for freezing, but they were all sloppy and weird because I almost never even eat ham, much less butcher it, so the 'steaks' were really just some ham scraps.)
And tonight, I'm going to make some vermicelli with kimchi and greens and maybe an egg or something.

Re: What's for Dinner?
I decided to use the extra slow and fancy bolognese I put up last Christmas to make a lasagna for dinner. Not as fancy as the Christmas version, but I first made fake ricotta with whole milk, then made real ricotta with the whey, so pary for our lots that this half-assed lasagna isn't gross.
It's in the oven now, so we don't know yet! Maybe it will be terrible!
I did pretty much work for a regular day, though, so I get points even if it sucks.

Re: What's for Dinner?
I don't know what you're having for dinner but if it's buttermilk style pancakes with kimchee. Bad idea.

Re: What's for Dinner?
So weird. I was thinking about making kimchi pancakes tonight.
This is sort of like the kind I make, though.
What happens with buttermilk ones? Do they do something really weird, or are they just gross?

Re: What's for Dinner?
Hi guys! We'll see how long this lasts. I miss this place but fragmented my online attention so much that it is hard to forum. Plus, life.
Tonight it was pork chops with this salad: Cucumber and Peach Salad with Herbs Recipe | Bon Appetit. I thought it was pretty and edible, but not likely to be a favorite. Also, the usual mac n cheese, sweet potato tots, and whatever cut up veg and fruit we have.
Why, yes, I am cooking through that farmer's market article.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Tonight it was the eggplant recipe, but without the pork to be a side with baked fish. I would try it again, because I usually order something like this when it is on the menu and some of what I didn't like about it was just first time execution. And leftover mac, rice, steamed broccoli, fruits from the fridge and fruit bowl.
One big change with both kids in school is that I haven't used up all my mental energy by supper time and have space to shop at my own pace, so I can cook without feeling harried. It's nice.

Re: What's for Dinner?
My brother is here visiting, so yesterday, we day drank and watched a movie and then made some falafel with black eyed peas, and we didn't have green onions, so we picked some wild onions out of the yard. It was pretty bad, and we lost track of time and it wasn't even ready until 8:59. LOL.
So today was friends dinner day and I made: Chop salad, imam bayildi (I copied wildy making eggplant), yellow fried rice, harissa chicken, plus tzatziki and more harissa.
Tomorrow: Watermelon, because there is a giant watermelon in the refrigerator that I forgot to cut up for tonight.
But I made a whole dinner tonight, so it's OK to bookend it with bad, late falafel and watermelon.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Last night was pancakes and bacon, tonight was pizza to-go. Nothing too exciting.
