@Sharon, the only thing I can work out is maybe they'd inflated the prices in my area and are correcting them. It's $20,000 less than what I paid for the house, too

Fucking PS3. Just switched the fucking thing on for the first fucking time in fucking ages.
It won't let me play my game without first indulging in a several-hundred fucking megabyte 'upgrade' and it can't do that 'in the background'. 
Despite my having a fucking seriously fast broadband connection, it's going slower than a ruptured snail striving uphill against a strong headwind.
Estimated time to download the upgrade is currently 312 minutes.

I used to donate my old books to the local library. Every coupla three years, I'd bring a big pile of books there to donate. However, one year, the librarian told me that they couldn't accept any donations.
It turned out that the donated books would be counted against their budget. So, their budgets would get slashed if they received too many donations.

You want me to hire the most qualified people I can for this job. So I do that and then I'm training them, and they are great. We can really use this person. And then they say, "I've been offered a position with another bakery in town that will pay me $3.50 more per hour starting pay. And when I ask you if we have a counter-offer, you the owners are blase. Oh well.
Later when you are upset that things aren't better I am going to point out the frustration of losing our quality employees to the other bakery that pays them a decent wage- and you will shrug this off too and then ask me how quality control is going with the people who are less ambitious and more willing to work for less, and you are going to be unsatisfied, and I am going to be unsatisfied, and then the problem will persist, and the people I respect on my crew will leave and get paid better for their hard work, and we can make some substandard bread that unfortunately has artisan quality as its primary selling point. In a niche market in a crappy economy.
