The KGB finally took him out.
Oh wait, I was thinking of Chuck Barris.

Setsuko Hara obituary | Film | The Guardian
She died back in September, but she had been keeping to herself for decades, so I guess it took a while for the news to go public.
Tokyo Story is pretty much a mandatory watch movie, so if you haven't seen it, you should right now.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Erstwhile Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has been found dead age 48. No cause of death has been announced yet. It's hard for me as someone who grew up during the 90s not to be nostalgic about some of the songs he worked on.

This was sad news, but not unexpected, given his trajectory. RIP. I had Interstate Love Song in my head all day yesterday.
He died in Bloomington, which is about 20 minutes away from me, so there's all kinds of coverage in the papers here. And Bloomington gets to use all the cool cop gadgetry that they have lying around to get to the bottom of this.

R.I.P. Lemmy Kilmister, Motörhead frontman dead at 70 | Consequence of Sound
I was going to see him back in August, but he had to cancel supposedly from altitude sickness.

He really was. Considering the amount of drugs and alcohol he consumed, to make it to 70 was truly incredible.
Saw him and Rob Zombie way back when and it was a rocking show.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
I caught one of TCM's in memoriam bits last night. I don't know how I missed or forgot that Saaed Jaffrey died. He's been one of my favorites since My Beautiful Laundrette. He always reminded me of Claude Rains. He had the same sort of roguish twinkle in his eye.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Aw, crap. While I was never a big Motörhead fan, I was always a huge fan of Hawkwind, the band he was in before starting Motörhead. On the last album he did with Hawkwind, he contributed the (kinda silly) song that named his band:
Betcha didn't expect it'd have a violin solo, huh?
... and now you know -- the rest of the story. [/paulharvey]

That was probably one of the first songs they did as Motörhead, first thing I ever heard of them anyway.

Now I am going to tell you a story, Sack.
So you know how you have these little cultural references like song or movie quotes that get triggered in specific circumstances, and sometimes, they're nothing anyone else would ever recognize?
This is one of mine, and praise be that I found it on YouTube:
So, like, if there's a car alarm going off or a bunch of sirens, I'll be all like, "Not Skrillex again! Craaaaap! What about some Hawkwind or Marillion?"
And anyways, my mental image of you just got that much more robust and Neil from The Young Ones-esque is what I am trying to say.
And as penance for telling you that story, here is Motörhead on The Young Ones:

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Atypically, my introduction to Lemmy was as an actor. I find myself wishing very hard that my VCR still worked so I could watch my copy of Eat the Rich.

Sad.
Considering I haven't heard of any violent police raids on a local programer I'm assuming some sort of reality break.
