Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
Good word. It isn't about winning, it is how you play the game!
Tile pieces are a great deal of luck, while placement is mostly strategy. That Q and double word score gave cep an early lead, but all it takes is a 7-word score for 50 points and/or a few special squares to jump ahead.
ROUND THREE
Score Board |
---|
Nightson | 35 | Megatron | 28 | ceptimus | 83 | Leesifer | 15 |

Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
Agreed! To do well at Scrabble you have to memorize all the allowed two letter words. For example EF is legal (though I don't know what it means) so you could have played the same letters you did there horizontally from square D1, to make ALONE across a double word tile, and you'd have made a few extra points for the EF going down.
You could have probably scored a lot more placing the letters elsewhere to make two or more two-letter words. I've not checked, but I saw the ALONE possibility as soon as I looked at your play.
Maybe you didn't want to do that though, as it would have opened up the triple word square for Nightson!

Yeah, I was trying to find how I could get any 2 letter words out of it.

Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
JOLT starting at C9 and going horizontal.
Frustrating when you just cannot make it to the bonus tile but could if you had one more letter.

Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
Didn't my last play only score 19?
WANE = 4+1+1+1 (x2) = 14
EF = 1+4 = 5
Total 19
I should only be on 102. The double word score applies to WANE but not to EF.
If the double word score square had been under the E, then it would have applied to EF as well, but it was actually under the N.

Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
Okay the real-life board I am scoring on got shifted a little at some point.
Will reconfigure the scoreboard by going through the scoring history and each word one by one to see where I went wrong.

Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
Okay, sorry everyone. I deserve some s for that, my bad. That happened at the start of round two, so I was off a little on a few scores. I have since moved the board to a stable and out-of-the-way table.
Score Board |
---|
Nightson | 63 | Megatron | 41 | ceptimus | 102 | Leesifer | 16 |
That should be right. Please if it's wrong.
Lees' turn.

Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
There is one other mistake that resulted from the rest of the debacle, a misplaced (man, it took awhile to figure out when it came into play ). Lees had an which was placed on the board, even though it was never used. This happened because 'FLOURIC' and 'EOLIAN' share an 'I', but with the board offset I used one from her letter pool which was incorrect. Therefore one extra tile was drawn and Lees has it. This can be solved simply then everything should be on-par. I am going to give her the choice to swap any letter she has with her long lost of she wants, then the extra tile will just go back in the pile.

Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
I think JOLTY scores 15 and DYAD scores 9. But both use the double word square, so that's 48 points altogether!

Double Word Score can only be used on the word it was used on.

Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
Yeah, well that's both of Lees' words as it's under the Y she placed that forms part of both the words.

Re: Cat Scrabble Game Thread
Adding A to E2 and X to F2 to form WAX. Worth 29 points I'm pretty sure.
