It's things like that which is why I am not a fan of 'result-based sentencing.' Had she actually seriously injured or even killed the guy, she would not have gotten off so lightly, but the reason she didn't was more due to the grace of God than due to any particular difference in her intent or thinking.
Same with attempted murder/rape/whatever. You just tried to kill/rape someone, the fact that the other guy was lucky or better than you or whatever and so you failed is not anything do to with you. Why should the sentencing for your act and culpability be any less?

What exactly causes people to dump 12 hours of work on my desk, demand that it be done TODAY, work which they demand to SEE before it is sent to the client, and then sail out the door at 5 pm, neglecting to tell me that "It can go out tomorrow," but telling this to someone else who isn't even involved in the project. WTF is it. Seriously. WTF is it.

I spent a long time writing a Functional Design Specification for a project. I was pressured into sending it out early, and after it was sent I realised that a few of the paragraphs were just blocks of 'blah blah blah' that I'd used as filler when laying out the document, like this:

I did the EXACT SAME THING, except mine said stuff like, "Oh, god, I don't know I am just some hillbilly I don't even know what I'm doing," and I quit that job so I didn't even notice it until years later, as I was going through some work samples and censoring them for my portfolio, and I was like, "Yeah, maybe I shouldn't submit work samples where I admit that."

I figured out how to fix the fucking problem myself, Chris the useless Tech No-Support rep, thanks for your non-support. Why would Dell have their laptops cut the power to the wireless module so much when it's on battery power that it becomes non-functional? It wouldn't even load the Google homepage. And that was on Firefox. On IE7 it wouldn't do anything but time out. Oh well, fixed now.
