I have 30 years of experience developing presentations and my opinion isn't ever requested. Executive where I work goes to one seminar on presentation skills and he's hailed as a genius, and he hasn't even told us about all the "Awesome stuff that will take our slides to the next level."

A few predictions:

Slides will still be rectangular.

The awesome stuff will involve bigger text, full-screen photos with bright colors, and obscure metaphors such as a black cup on a red tablecloth accompanied by a single word.

Intricate builds that involve various triggers, motion effects, fade-ins, fade-outs, popups, and other PowerPoint atrocities will be de rigeur.

I will still get half an hour to get this all done hurry up the team is leaving for the airport and be on call this weekend because the team will fuck up everything you did anyway.

Historically, I've been given a lot of leeway in how I get my work done. My first job at Burger King was customer driven. So when there were customers I was working. My job in the Air Force, luckily lax as it was sometimes, I did what needed doing when it needed doing. When working for the DSWA there was a lot more leeway seeing as a boss was never looking over my shoulder as one could in previous jobs. But I was never screwing off when work was afoot. (Not to say I didn't screw around, but usually when I could manage a break or when scheduled work was done.) And by the time I came to the end of my last jerb, I was a Master of Self. I got stuff done and there was never a question about it.

All that to say I'm not used to being suspicious or mistrusting of a supervisor or other person in charge of my doings. Though when I was working on the manufacturing floor of last jerb my then supervisor had a tricksy habit of observing from a distance. But since I was always gainfully employed it didn't bug me. He was a p cool guy anyhow. When I'd catch him watching people I'd do that *point at my eyes and point at him* I'm watchin' you, buddy, thing.

And this brings me to my current whatever. I can't even call the guy my boss or my supervisor because things are so fucked up with the way things run. I work for a contractor who is currently contracted with the government. The guy who manages the lab I work in has just bugged me for months now. More than 95% of the time I'm certain it's not intentional, as in, it's just who he is. But who he is gets right under my skin with very little effort.

Last Thursday a couple of colleagues asked me if I knew about this quarterly inspection coming up. I said no. Oh, one says, Mack didn't tell you? No. Oh, hm. Okay. Well, it's next week but it's not big, I'll help you do some stuff to get ready for it. (One confesses the knowledge came, not from the mouth of Mack himself, rather from having read his calendar or email or sommit. So it's sekret knowledge!) Thursday passes into Friday and so time goes on into Tuesday (the day of inspection). I'm thinking it's a pretty big deal, seeing as it's once a quarter and it's very important to keep not just the area in order but also the paperwork. Mack doesn't say anything on Friday. Monday was a holiday* and Tuesday I called out on account of FUCK YOU SNOW OKAY GO THE FUCK AWAY.

I get to work today and I can tell there was something that happened, even though no work was done on Tuesday. Because I am Mr. Nice Guy and I don't judge anyone's motives for doing/not-doing things I think nothing of events that may or may not have happened when I wasn't there. (After speaking with lab-mates, they confirmed no work was done and I think to myself Oh, okay. I guess maybe the inspection didn't happen. No big.) But later in the morning, Mack tells me that the inspection went fine. They looked at things and went down their checklist and reported "No Findings." He even went so far as to give me a pat on the back. A literal pat on the back, with a congratulatory "Good job," to boot.

It wasn't until even later in the morning that I suspect he was testing me. I, of course, have zero proof of my mistrust; it's probably just my own emotional dislike for the guy feeding itself.

*HOLIDAY MY ASS, MOTHER FUCKERS.

So, Monday was President's day. An official federal government holiday. That means the building where I do my work would be closed. (As I'm told, if no federal employees are in that building, no contractors would be allowed in.) Yay, right? HOLIDAY! No. See, the contractor I work for doesn't follow the federal schedule. So, in order to "get the holiday off, which I have to take because I can't actually go to work" I either have to use vacation time, a floating holiday or make up the time by working extra. So, you know what, FUCK YOU JOB. YOU ARE BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD.

I have the perfect job, supervision wise. As a pastor either I don't have anyone telling me what I have to do or every member of the congregation has the right to tell me what I have to do, which amounts to same thing. On the other hand, I get to tell everyone what they have to do, but none of them are obliged to do it. In other words, everyone is my boss, so no one is my boss and I am everyone's boss, but no one is required to obey me.

Do you mean that Internet Explorer (9?) has that limit? One thing Win7 has failed to prevent is that you can still run another browser.

While the specifics of your rant may be in error (), I can only fault the actual rant for using only one word of profanity.

It's that I can't decide for myself where downloads go. Unless I set it to some other folder that it will then download everything I download from any source and by any method: browser, bittorrent, MSN whatever.

Firefox: Tools > Options > General tab > radio button "Always ask me where to save files"

May be different in Fx 4 or if you have addons like Download Manager Tweak.
