I don't get it either. It seems like if you have a refund coming, you'd be motivated to file in February anyway, so there's still no reason for the April crunch. But yeah, I'm a procrastinator and I have filed as late as October, because they don't fucking care when you file if they owe you money. Obviously.

My mom is an epic procrastinator, and has filed years late.

Interesting point -- if they would have owed you money, they cease to do so after four years.

BUT!

At least once, my mom filed 8-year-old taxes, and selected "apply this to next year's taxes", then did the same to 7-year-old taxes, and so on, and eventually filed for something recent enough that she could check the "please send money" box, and ended up getting a check for a large amount of money.

Oh it can certainly be useful, especially for people who travel or don't work in the office all the time. This particular user was the service center manager, he basically never leaves the office. He has access to computer/thin client to keep his email up to date.

The only thing I am even sort of sure he is using the BlackBerry for is as a cell phone. I don't begrudge the service center manger a cell phone, they are some of the people who probably should have one. Buying a device and the accompanying data plan for a user that uses just 1 function of the device is overkill IMO. He, and probably a good portion of the other BB users we have, could likely get away with just a cell phone and simple calling plan, saving 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of the BB/data plan/email license for the BB.

Then again this is a company that will get just about anyone who asks a Blackberry, even HR assistants who spend 100% of their time in the office with a computer, yet for some reason still need access to their email 24/7. What kind of HR emergency comes up in the middle of the night that requires an HR person to be contacted?

Seriously, I sorta see the point. The meta-strategy, I think, is that it may be cheaper to support "everyone has the same exact phone" than it would be to support two or three or four models, and maybe you'll get lucky and some of these people will start using the calendar, task list, or whatever.

I wish it was 3 or 4 models of phones only. I think we are up to nearly 20 different models available from 3 different carriers.

Spread out between BlackBerries, Windows Mobile phones and even some Palm phones.

Nobody has a handle on it because every VP, Director, etc. has there own personal favorite phones and had them before we had any formal plan together. Not that it would matter anyway because the people at that level have traditionally had no constraints on what they could buy. They buy it, we have to support it.

No one steps up to say no you can't have this because the moment they do some muckity muck is on the phone telling them YOU WILL SUPPORT THIS! It's a fucking mess.

ETA: I had to check our approved cell phone list. 32 different models available for purchase.

Where I am, you can have any phone you want, as long as it's a Blackberry 83xx. You can have AT&T if you do a lot of international travel, or if your house doesn't have Sprint coverage. Otherwise, you get Sprint. Don't like it? Buy your own and don't expect support.

A chicken site with so many goddamned rules that one cannot be inquisitive, nor critical, without getting slapped around.

Yeah...They made the mistake of posting their rules, then allowing posters to post questions. So, I asked about why the rules were so bad, so vague, and so unbelieveably unhelpful. The terms need several more levels of explanation to be clear to the user. They banned anything which is 'slamming' other religions, but failed to explain what qualifies as 'slamming' and how to deal with such issues. So, I made a whole list of questions and comments about their obviously inadequate set of rules and posted it up where they told me I was supposed to post it.

Net result: I was banned.

That now makes four. I'm working on five, because I went back to the other chicken board and posted up a note about the first lame chicken board.

They chimed in to tell me that despite my carefully reviewing their rules, they decided to lift my thread and put it in "review". On the back lines, they refuse to tell you why or how this "review" process works.

Oh...and they actually have a rule that posters cannot post threads criticizing the moderators. Like they have divinely inspired moderators who are omniscient and make no mistakes. I suspect I'm well on my way to being banned there as well.



It is so much fun to point out the shortcomings of others' rules, only to have them ban you for it. That is just so overwhelmingly mature.

It was also fun watching other posters in the know practically shit their pants when they saw my posts....quivering and whining about how I was going to be banned. Man, talk about how the average person is cowed by these little tin gods is beyond me.
