I was introduced to both by this very thread. I agree; one thing that really drags Darths and Droids down is the commentary at the end. The DMotR commentary was sometimes self-conscious, but more often it was damned funny in its own right. The D&D commentary is painfully self-conscious, either overanalyzing the joke of the comic or apologizing for not making it funnier. Just shut up already, guys.

Re: Web Comics
Huh, fortuitous!
I am working on a site for this kind of thing exactly. It's currently in beta test, at
Electric-Manga
The intent is that you submit and review comics so other people can find comics they might like.

I enjoy PVP. In fact, Scott is an old childhood friend of mine. He even based the Brent Sienna character on me, mentions me every once in a while on site or in the strip, and sometimes uses inside jokes from our childhood in the strip.
I like Penny Arcade a good deal, as well.

Re: Web Comics
Scott Kurtz is pretty cool. I'm sad about his dog.
So how's Jade in the sack?

lol. Jade is based primarily on Scott's wife. So I would have NO IDEA how she is in the sack (except what Scott has told me, which is totally off-limits).
When I went back and read my post, it kind of looks like I'm bragging about the whole thing. I'm not. I have virtually nothing to do with his success, and the character Brent has taken on a life of his own and lost almost all resemblence to me over time. So I take no credit -- I just thought it would be interesting to throw out there.

Re: Web Comics
I didn't pick up any bragging, I just thought it sounded cool.
Scott was on the short list of people I wanted to write to about the electric-manga site, but my guess is that I sent him that email within about a day of when his dog died, so I'm not expecting a response any time soon. I wrote him because I want the site to NOT fuck over the webcomic artists, and Scott Kurtz is the guy to go to if you want informed opinions about webcomic business models. I still laugh at all the people complaining that he wants amateur webcomics to fail -- prediction is not desire.

You should definitely email him about the electic-manga site. I'm sure he would write you back. And you're certainly right about amateur webcomics. Scott really loves all webcomics, and loves to see others succeed.
Two things keep Scott at the top of his game. First, he's just a damn-good storyteller who always has a finger on the pulse of modern culture. Secondly, he's got business savvy and a great ability to make connections with others.

Re: Web Comics
I did already email him about it. I just haven't heard back -- and I'm not surprised. He's got stuff going on.
And yeah, his comic is by far one of my favorites. Most comics lose the funny once they go to doing story arcs. He's still got it. To put this in perspective, it's the only comic I know of that I can usually tell people about and they'll laugh. Most comics don't survive someone trying to tell you the funny part.

Not to be like, a downer or something, but I didn't find any of those Savage Chickens comics funny. And I dislike his drawing style.
Yawnomatopoeia was slightly amusing tho.

It's all good. It's not like I don't know that I have a more than slightly "off" sense of humor.

Re: Web Comics
Folks, your links astound and amaze.
Please donate a few minutes of your time to sign up at em.studiowhippingboy.com and submit these lovely comics, and let me know if you have any problems doing so.
I have seen many comics on that joke, that's my favorite so far.
