What are you reading?
Currently I am splitting my reading time between Baudelaire's The Flowers of Evil and Kelly's The Great Mortality. The former is a collection of poetry from mid Nineteenth Century France, translated into English. The latter is an in depth study of the Black Death of the mid Fourteenth Century.
How about you?

Re: What are you reading?
You mean the three most recent books I've started that are on my bedside table and I may never finish?
Beliefs, Attitudes and Human Affairs, by Daryl J. Bem
A Cartoon History of the United States, by Larry Gonick
and
Freethinkers - A History of American Secularism, by Susan Jacoby

Re: What are you reading?
Right now I'm reading an internet message board, and the latest issues of Car and Driver and Cycle magazines while watching MSNBC and a bunch of oil and gas pipelines and platforms out in the Mulf of Gexico.
I haven't read a whole book all the way through since I read The Real Wild West: The 101 Ranch.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
This is my third time through, and I'm actually almost able to follow it this time. I wanted to get a good understanding of it before book 6 comes out in July.

Both of those sound interesting. For some reason, I've always thought it was salt that was valuable in Medieval times, but recent reading seems to suggest that it was pepper.
What is the latter book about?

Leonard Shlain has an ongoing interest is misogyny. He is postulating that the rise of alphabetic written communication, which relies, relatively, upon left brain activity, which predominates in the male of the human species, has acted as a springboard for paternalism, male domination and cultural misogyny. It's interesting, but not as good as his Sex, Time and Power, which takes the topic further back into human prehistory.

Re: What are you reading?
I'm reading manuscripts from several researchers who I've been in contact with for a postdoc.
The latest is a PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) manuscript on evolutionary biology.

I enjoy Hustler and Jugs Monthly. But only for the pictures.
But I also enjoy fiction, and science fiction. Dean Koontz, Jean Auel, and the like. I don't care for dry hard reads, it does not hold my attention long enough.

I'm rereading The Magister Ludi (Glass Bead Game) by Hermann Hesse and plodding my way through The Life and Times of Nikola Tesla.

I've read several of Hesse's books. He really had an amazing command of language.

Doesn't surprise me. Haven't "read" one of those things since the world-wide web came along.

I had you pegged for a Louis L'Amour Westerns reader. I know, I know, you want to bang Ayla.

Hell yeah, who would'nt. Hubba hubba, Jean sure is graphic in some of her writings. Often times redundant though. I think she pointed out the inportance of Iza line as medicine woman about a hundred times. I just finished the 5th book.

I've only read Siddhartha, Demian and Magister Ludi. I should probably look for new ones instead of rereading. Can you recommend another that stands out?
After Magister Ludi (the first time) I became obsessed for about a month trying to figure out how to invent the game. There are online groups who have tried to simulate it.
