Yabut, the scientists have been shown to be conspiring with government to hide the data.

Seeing that yes, some "climate experts" were behaving very badly, even in a criminal fashion, led to some serious skepticism regarding all of the claims we had been hearing since 1988. It didn't take long to find out that the problems they were trying to hide were actual real problems, and the way they dealt with it was 100% wrong.
This led to a much bigger problem, now they didn't have clean hands, in th legal sense. Obviously the brainwashed sheeple didn't care, which meant its was indeed a political matter, which always fucks up science. Always.

Complete horseshit.
Even if there is AGW, or global warming, and the earth reaches conditions like the Altithermal, even if it reaches conditions like the Eemian period, people won't go extinct from that. Even if the planet returns to a non Ice Age condition (like 2.4 million years ago), animals and people and ocean life isn't going to vanish.
That is scare tactics, it's horse manure, it's bullshit.
If you think about it, even a little, and somehow wrench yourself out of the brainwashing you have suffered, you can know this to be true.
The other real problems, human caused, now they certainly pose a risk of extinction. And not just humans
Just as a small example of "that which is never explained".
If the planet reaches condition like the Altithermal (Mid-Holocene Warm Period, or Hypsithermal or Climatic Optimum, or the Atlantic period), which was centered around 6000 years ago, where trees grew in the arctic, glaciers were gone, or very small, sea level was 3 to 4 meters higher, Lake MegaChad in what is now the Sahara was the centerpiece of the largest river system in history, African animals roamed Europe and Russia, if those conditions return, life will not end. Far from it.
We are nowhere close to those conditions yet.
But even if that happens, life will thrive, not end.
The Eemian was even warmer.
People did not go extinct then either.
This horseshit scare tactic is not about science.
That is of course true about a lot of other matters as well.
Because "beliefs", people will pick and chose what they believe.

Good thing the only problem we could ever possibly have from climate change is our complete extinction.

Re: Climategate 2.0
FX:
The issue is the speed with which the climate will change, which causes changes in weather patterns, which disrupts modern agriculture which relies on tight, predictable time tables. Disrupting these patterns means people die, and even if they won't die of hunger, you're looking at major economic disruption, leading to civil unrest and war.
The other issue is what was the carrying capacity of the planet during the periods you mention? Will it be able to support 8 billion people? If it gets warm in the arctic regions, how fast can we setup farms and modify global logistics to feed 8 billion people? And suddenly moving all farms to different locations is going to have absolutely chaotic ramifications in geopolitics.
People of your position constantly bring up how people were alive at X time period, but 8 billion people were not alive during the time periods you mention. What was the carrying capacity of the planet during that time period?

Re: Climategate 2.0
This is related to Climate issues, in several ways, though the connections may be a tad obscure to the less observant.
I met with a friend while in Telluride, who worked for a company who buys Sand for construction and for Fracking and other mining uses. He is retiring.
He says finding sand for his customers is becoming a lot more difficult.
The world is actually running out of sand. https://interestingengineering.com/v...-sand-shortage
Between the massive increase in Building over the last few decades, and, the use in the Fracking process
We are over-consuming sand.
Sand mining is close to being an environmental crisis.

I wonder what Saudi Arabia will look like after they have sold off all their Sand.

Re: Climategate 2.0
And, yet another challenge to our "Clean Earth" Campaign:
Communities can’t recycle or trash disposable e-cigarettes. So what happens to them?
U.S. teens and adults are buying roughly 12 million disposable vapes per month. With little federal guidance, local officials are finding their own ways to dispose of e-cigarettes collected from schools, colleges, vape shops and other sites.
So, one day, former landfills will be a new source of Lithium, and Nicotine?

Landfills are already the source of almost everything, so yeah, probably.

Since that will be around the same time the heat death of the Universe occurs, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Re: Climategate 2.0
Desert sand is the 'wrong sort of sand' for most building work. To make strong concrete and mortar, you want sand where the grains have sharp corners and edges. The sand in deserts is constantly blown around by the wind, and the action of the sand grains rolling over each other tends to result in the grains becoming practically spherical.
The same is true for most sea (and therefore beach) sand - here it's the rolling action of the waves that smooths the corners from the sand grains.
The sort of sand that's best for building comes from river beds and lakes - that's why good building sand is becoming an increasingly rare resource.

Yep. I was just about to post this:

Re: Climategate 2.0
i feel like we might well be able to make better sand from worse sand with sufficient free energy, but it might take some doing.
