A portmanteau of Metroid and Castlevania, so games like those 2D scrolling platformers.

Oh, I'm not familiar with either of those but Google helped. I'm not a big fan of scrollers.

While I'm not a fan of the Switch itself, I am a fan of Nintendo's software. They have a number of excellent first party games to play. One game I didn't mention previously is Astral Chain, which is by all accounts an excellent action RPG.

That's a bit of a shame as side scrolling platformers are among some of the best games I've ever played.

I haven't touched the Switch since the day I got it. :ashamed:

On another note, this mini-documentary on the history of game consoles is great. My family had the original Odyssey when I was about 7 yrs. old.

My video game play list is kind of boring. Mostly Fortnite, because I used to play with my kids and my niece and nephews. My kids have moved on to Rocket League and Roblox, and I still play occasionally with them but I'm the one who is now addicted.

I moved onto Save the World (the original game mode of Fortnite) where I met a group of folks on Twitch that I routinely party up with now to grind missions.

When I eventually bore of Fortnite, I've begun playing Multiversus and my old standby The Division.

Since I got a new computer, I purchased a somewhat recent game to play on it. I opted for "Control" (2019) - because I like a good "weird" setting for a game.

Until now I haven't been fully addicted to a game since Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild about 5 years ago, and now it's Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I've been playing for a couple weeks and I'll probably finish the main quest today and all the side quests over the coming few days, then I'll go back to not gaming.

I picked up the remake of System Shock. I had only played System Shock 2 back in the day and I enjoyed that one a bunch. I'm enjoying it so far, but it's a pretty simple game - clear out the level you're in to move on to the next level - a very 90s feel to the gameplay. Shodan is what made the original more interesting - Shodan is the AI controlling the station and turning everyone into cyborgs, and she's not happy you're there interfering with her plans. She's a precursor to GladOS from Portal.

I loved Control. The weirdness and in-game lore is top notch, and the combat and other gameplay is challenging without being overly frustrating. It's one of the few games I've played enough to collect all the achievements (trophies to you PlayStation types; no idea what they call 'em on PC).

Lately I've been playing Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint, also from 2019. It has problems, but there's lots to do. Moreover, any game set in an erstwhile lolbertarian paradise established on a fictional archipelago in the Pacific that turned completely to shit can't be all bad. :D

Humble Bundle has one of those "a bunch of remastered 90s FPS for cheap" bundles. There were a few that I remember considering getting back in the day. I picked up 9 games for $15. These remasters might have some updates, but they look almost identical to how I remember 1990s games look.

So far, I've dipped my toe into:
Rise of the Triad. Supposedly started as a sequel to Wolfenstein 3D using the DOOM engine, and I can tell. played for maybe 1.5-2 hours and I said, "I get it." I might go back to it. for old-timey FPS fun.

Forsaken I forgot I played this game when it was released. It took me about 3 levels, and I thought, "Wait! I remember this." I remember it being slow and confusing at the time, with it being touted as the 1st fully 3D game. I think I'm more used to the concept now, so it's not as confusing, and it's not at all slow.

Next up is Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. I remember most reviews panned it, but it did well enough to have sequels, one of which is in the bundle I bought.

finishing Octopath 2, right now, but looking forward to the Thousand Year Door re-release.

You may see people saying the release "went woke" and made a character trans. This is bullshit. The character was originally trans, but the US localization of the previous release concealed this.
