I'm seriously befuddled that one of the richest people in the world with industry connections I can't even imagine really thought the Metaverse was a good idea when it seemed patently obvious to little ole me (and most anyone who remembers Second Life) that it was a terrible idea. The technology just isn't even close to there yet.
Besides that being rich insulates you from failure (Quibi being a thing that happened yet none of the execs are destitute begging on the streets pops into my head more often than it should).
It really seems like they are brainstorming ways to better monetize us as little data packet morsels and are then coming up with reasons as bait for why standing underneath the box with a stick is a good idea. Everyone is so busy imagining catching their morsel at the cheapest rate, they’ve presumed the mouse will be dumb enough to go after orange painted styrofoam.

With the massive amount of money and power he's accumulated, it's really easy for him to surround himself with fawning yes-men and people who think just like him.

Second Life quickly became a small enchanted city with an eccentric but charming citizenry, surrounded by a brutal desert that few dared cross. Linden Lab, in other words, had inadvertently re-created the Burning Man experience a bit too thoroughly.
