Authorities said the person who would later kill five at a Colorado gay nightclub was on the FBI’s radar a day before being arrested for threatening to kill family members, but agents closed out the case just weeks later.
The FBI’s disclosure about the tip, provided in a statement to The Associated Press, creates a new timeline for when law enforcement was first alerted to Anderson Lee Aldrich as a potential danger. The FBI did not say who gave the tip on June 17, 2021, or anything about the information that was provided.
The next day, law enforcement was alerted when Aldrich’s grandparents ran from their Colorado Springs home and called 911, saying Aldrich was building a bomb in the basement and had threatened to kill them. Details of the case remain sealed, but an arrest affidavit verified by the AP detailed how Aldrich was upset the grandparents were moving to Florida because it would get in the way of Aldrich’s plans to conduct a mass shooting and bombing.
The grandparents were concerned about Aldrich even before the 911 call, according to the document, with the grandmother telling authorities she and her husband had been “living in fear” because of Aldrich’s “recent homicidal threats toward them and others.”

DENVER (Reuters) - Three Colorado police officers and two paramedics pleaded not guilty on Friday to homicide charges in the 2019 killing of Elijah McClain, a Black man subdued by police, placed in a choke hold and injected with a sedative, though he was neither armed nor suspected of a crime.
Attorneys for all five defendants entered pleas of not guilty to manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and other charges. The arraignment was in Adams County, the jurisdiction where the killing took place.
McClain, 23, was walking home from a convenience store in the Denver suburb of Aurora on Aug. 24, 2019, when he was confronted by police responding to a report that he was acting suspiciously, although he was not suspected of having committed a crime.
Police restrained the slight-of-built McClain in a carotid neck hold, commonly known as a choke hold. He was later injected with the powerful sedative ketamine, then lapsed into cardiac arrest and died days later at a hospital.
In a video recording of the encounter from a police-worn body camera, a sobbing McClain could be heard pleading with the officers: "I can't breathe, please stop. I was just going home."
A revised autopsy report issued in September 2022 concluded a ketamine overdose was the cause of McClain's death.
Aurora coughed up $15 million to settle the parents' civil claims, and now the state gets to fund three separate criminal trials. Buy hey, taxpayer money well spent in defense of "YEEEEEEHAW MOTHERFUCKER" police tactics.
Seriously, though, the criminal charges never would have occurred but for the state attorney general's decision to convene a grand jury. Good on Phil Weiser.
The City of Aurora has surely learned its lesson. The fact that the interim police chief they hired back in November has a lengthy history of official misconduct and was a frequent guest of Alex Jones on InfoWars is not cause for concern. No sir, not at all.

There are a couple of doomed wingnut Second Amendment "protection" bills pending in the Colorado legislature. A representative of the griftastic Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, resplendent in suit, tie and faschy haircut, testified in favor of the bills at a legislative committee hearing.
Asked about gun violence being the leading cause of death among children, faschy haircut guy said that all we need do is "remove Black males" from the calculation, and presto - gun violence is no longer the leading cause of death among children!
Once again, we see there is neither a "silent part" nor a bottom.

More importantly, if we remove all of the school shootings that happen a lot fewer children die from being shot! Obviously this means we need to ban schools!

Lolorado bidnizman Tim Shea is going to federal prison for 63 months for his part in the "We Build the Wall" fraud that bilked rubes out of some $25 million. And yes, this is the same scam for which Steve Bannon surely would have been doing time but for PAB issuing a pardon on his way out the White House door.

Back in 2006, the voters decided to bar same-sex marriage as a matter of state constitutional law. Unlike many other states, though, our gay marriage ban didn't go the extra mile by prohibiting any legal recognition of marriage-like arrangements for same-sex couples.
OK now it all makes sense.

I spent a few years in the Rocky Mountain High country when I first came West -
Jackson Hole, Summit County, Gunnison - It was great in the late Spring through early Autumn. But I quickly learned that when the First Snow comes along, it's time to go to town and find a job that pays for shelter and food.
Even when the weather is good, feeding yourself can often cost you more calories that you can hope to take in. These folks were clearly idiots in search of their final resting place.
