Oh man. Feeling a little extra ancient right about now.

Vangelis was actually in the running to play keyboards for Yes when Rick Wakeman left in 1974. Yes ultimately hired Patrick Moraz, and Vangelis went on to a fine solo career as well as pumping out four gorgeous albums with Yes singer Jon Anderson. Been a long time, but tonight's a good night for listening to some Jon & Vangelis.

Also long time Yes drummer Alan White, aged 72..

I'm a fan of Bill Bruford's drumming, but Alan clocked up many more years with Yes than Bill.

Oh man, Alan White was terrific. I'm a long-time fan of Bruford, but I always thought White was a better fit for for the stuff Yes played from about 1972 on. He's been pretty severely debilitated in recent years, but that music they pumped out will live on.

And here he is tearing it up with fellow departed Yes man Chris Squire.

If you're into tributes, here's a bunch from White's family, current Yes men Steve Howe, Geoff Downes, Billy Sherwood, Jon Davidson and Jay Schellen along with Yes alums Jon Anderson, Tony Kaye, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin.

The Godfather star James Caan dies aged 82 | James Caan | The Guardian

From the linkKeen not to follow his father into the meat trade, Caan initially aimed for a career as a football player, but got interested in acting after studying at Hofstra University in New York state – where he met future collaborator Francis Ford Coppola. [...]
After playing the lead in a disappointing 1970 adaptation of John Updike’s celebrated novel Rabbit, Run, Caan achieved a major breakthrough with Coppola’s The Godfather. Caan originally auditioned for the role of Michael Corleone that eventually went to Al Pacino, and was favoured by the studio executives, but after Coppola insisted on Pacino, Caan was given another plum role, Corleone’s older brother Sonny. Caan received his only Oscar nomination, for best supporting actor ...

RIP actor Tony Sirico, who was prolific as hell but likely best known as Paulie Walnuts from The Sopranos.

RIP yet another veteran actor, Paul Sorvino of Goodfellas and Law and Order fame. His character in Goodfellas was patterned after Paul Vario, a capo in New York's Luchesse crime family.
