Trying a different background. I’ve been working on the internals, I think I’ll finish it pretty soon.

Default Re: This Old House of Bricks

As y’all know, I’ve been working on this for months. I have no idea how many hundreds (or thousands) of bricks I used, but it’s finally “finished” (as much as a MOC can be).

New Brickshire’s Castle Wall Inn and Stables is now open and serving adventurers from Eternia to Alderaan, from New York to Metropolis, From Winterfell to Vulcan, and more dimensions than you can shake a brick at.

The roof has dinner party seating in these times of relative peace.

The roof comes off of course. Here it sits in front of the treehouse.

The second floor are the Inn’s guest accommodations: two single rooms and a suite.

The 2nd floor is probably my favorite. I set out to make rooms that got better in quality.

Teela and HeMan are staying in the economy Yellow room. Prince Adam could have afforded the royal suite, but HeMan can’t so as to maintain his secret identity. They are actually following Skeletor.

Daenerys is staying in the mid level Red room. A guardian is visiting her for some reason. I suppose plotting is afoot

Plotting is definitely afoot in the Royal Suite. Skeletor and Dr Doom are meeting a local baron who is a guest at the Inn.

The ground floor is a tavern where the Innkeep is tending bar and on the other side of the wall is a stable. Black Widow is getting a drink and Jon Snow is waiting to order.

They are pretty busy. For reservations, thoughtcast to the Inn’s resident magician: Thaldor the Middling.

But if you show up, they will find a place for you to sleep (though it might be in the stables)

Been working on my Gatehouse.

I decided to make each tower defended by a different Lord. The New Brickshire’s King Albion IV Blue and Gold colors are represented by one flag and then the respective House colors are as well. The Southern tower is garrisoned by House Burgess whose colors are Red and White. The Northern tower is garrisoned by House Wallen with their Dragon Sofia and green and gold. Albion’s family’s Plantagenet Blue and Gold colors can be found throughout the Gatehouse and the Castle Wall Inn.

Southern tower, you can see the Northern Tower in the background. The top floor of each tower is a watch tower with soldiers armed with bows or crossbows.

In each tower, the bottom floor is the armory where powerful magical weapons are stored. You can see Sir Dameon the Bull discussing inventory with the sword librarian.

The second floor has sleeping quarters and a couple of balconies.
I made it red and black because ago Dawgs!

Here you can see the tops floor by itself with each roof removed.
Each tower is decorated in the colors of their House. Red for the southern tower and Greens for the Northern.

With the southern tower off, we can see the North Tower. It is garrisoned by House Wallen who have served the kingdom in this role for generations and take their house name from this service.

Been working on the moat for my gatehouse.

It flows down from the mountains and then off the edge of the cliff.

Here the drawbridge is down.

Drawbridge up to better see the water and the door :)

You can see the progress from this pic.

I’ve seen mouth breathers in some of Lego groups I’m a member of lament the days off because they are waiting on orders that aren’t shipped fast enough/are on backorder, seriously.

Some people just hate workers.

We found out that the Home Alone Lego set comes in 24 bags, so you can complete it like an advent calendar, so ES got a present early. She started today and this is about 6 bags in.

If you look closely, under the Xmas tree, they have the Home Alone Lego set.

Our Lego collection is the Lego rooms, but waiting to be set up.

ES put together this VW camper van, it is too cute. Lego set 10279.

I put together Lego 76088 Thor vs Hulk Arena Clash which is from Thor Ragnarok.

Both are on display in a small Billy bookcase.

I went to Michaels today with the intention of maybe buying blue poster board to put on the walls of the Lego display room, but I found something better to use: bulletin board paper blue sky with clouds.

We put up a sheet.

Here is a panorama I took.

The dark space is from the window. We put up cardboard to block the window, we might try to cover that (or paint it) white, but overall, I’m real happy with the sky.

I worked on Brickingham some more today.

I made a windowsill cover which I intend to use to build some background.

I also covered the gap between the shelf and the wall to hopefully minimize stuff falling behind.

Leicester’s Jess Sigsworth: ‘I’m addicted to Lego. I’ve built Wembley and Old Trafford’ | Leicester City Women | The Guardian

Seems like you're not alone ...

Quote:
“You might be very surprised at the answer to this,” says Jess Sigsworth. “It’s not easy to guess what I like doing on days off.”

The Leicester forward is talking about the need to unwind from the stresses of a Women’s Super League relegation battle and the all-consuming nature of her new obsession. “It’s Lego,” she reveals. “I’m addicted. I’ve built Wembley and Old Trafford.

“When you’re doing Lego your mind’s taken off everything else, it’s the only thing that matters and, by the time you finish, you can’t believe two or three hours have just gone. It stops me thinking about football all the time.”

I have literally told my therapist that while freebuilding, my adhd addled mind calms and sometimes when I get into flow, I don’t think about anything else. So I definitely identify with that Jess quote.

Also

Quote:
It was at her previous club, Manchester United, that she was introduced to Lego. “I started last year when we went into lockdown and I just got addicted,” she says
Yep, I think a lot of people discovered or rediscovered Lego during the lockdown.

Those soccer stadiums aren’t my cup of tea, but they are large complex builds, and look really cool.

I think Old Trafford is the Manchester U stadium. For us non soccer fans, it’s like talking about the dawgs playing in Sanford.

I’ve been working on my windowsill background for Brickingham.

I try to do an hour or two every day.

It’s been very slow going, but I think I’m picking up speed.

My castle facade is getting close to finished. Then I just need to rebuild my mountain water fall and a bit more low wall and my windowsill will build will be done.

As you can see, when it’s in place, it’s mostly hidden by the gatehouse.

Another week or two and I might be able to start working on Brickingham proper :)
