I binge watched Father Ted a couple of years ago and he was so damn funny. He didn't have to say a word. Just sleeping in the background he stole scenes. Pouring one out for you, Father Jack.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Former First Lady Nancy Reagan has died age 94. Charles Pierce at Esquire has a nice writeup on her tireless crusading for Alzheimer’s research. Meanwhile, digby observes that Nancy very likely had a moderating influence on her husband’s foreign policy and can probably be credited with ending the Cold War.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Beatles producer Sir George Martin has evidently died aged 90. If anyone has a legit claim to being the fifth Beatle, it's him. I find it hard to imagine a scenario in which they'd have been even half as influential without him at the helm. Just look at the one album where he wasn't given final control (Let It Be) and compare what a shitshow it was compared to the other stuff they recorded around the same time (Abbey Road, The White Album). He will be missed for sure.

If you haven't yet, you must get your ears a copy of In My Life. It's one of my most favorite albums.

I'm pretty sure there are quite a few people whose hearts skipped a beat before realizing George Martin wasn't a writer.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Scarlatti hasn't posted here since 2011 and his blog is long-moribund, but he's still giving Wisconsin wingnuts the business on Twitter.

Fortunately for us, but not so fortunately for the Starks, fiction's most notorious serial killer is still alive and well.
It's now being reported that Keith Emerson's death was a suicide, which makes the news even more depressing. It's fair to say that the genre of progressive rock would have looked a lot different without his influence. Rock in general would have been pretty different without his influence, actually, but prog in particular would have been incomprehensibly different. A strong case could be made that he had been the greatest living rock keyboardist (if it wasn't him, it was Rick Wakeman). Just a terrible week for music all around. A terrible year for music all around. Really, ever since Lemmy it's just been a constant stream of terrible news.

British composer Peter Maxwell Davies, whom I mentioned less here at less than a week ago, died on Monday of leukemia.
RIP Sir Peter Maxwell Davies
And too many other works to mention. He was brilliant in multiple areas, especially opera and symphonic writing.

I just went and re-bought all the albums. I had most of them and they either got lost or stolen. Classic music.
