It's actually a good day for Flint. Obama signed the emergency order. It doesn't give us money to fix the pipes, unfortunately, just for water, filters and distribution. Also, Flint native Amir Hekmati was one of the prisoners released by Iran after four years in prison.

On the downside, Michael Moore is grand-standing at city hall as I type. But at least he's not here in the library.

I gave everyone a little blood clot scare Wednesday evening. I had areas on my lower left leg that had painful nodules under the skin and a reddened and warm rash on the skin. My doctor was concerned enough he sent me home with an order for bed rest, elevation and compression bandage on the offending leg. I was scheduled early the next day to get a venous ultrasound at the cardiac unit of the affiliated hospital. Early in the afternoon I got a copy of the email from the doctor to the Nurse Practitioner stating that "Dopple negative. Erythema. Prescribe Keflex antibiotics."

I never was too worried, WebMD, Wikipedia, and I had already diagnosed this as Erythema nosodrum, but I did not share that information with the medicos because I know how much they hate people looking up their symptoms on the innerweb tubes.

Prescient dream about three weeks ago: I dreamed my left lower leg had to be amputated. That may come someday, just not now.

I had a somewhat similar scare last week. My left leg, between the ankle and the knee, was red, swollen and painful. So red that if we had turned off the light I would not have been surprised to see it glow in the dark. My amateur diagnosis was cellulitis. The medico concurred. It is being treated with a course of antibiotics, warm compresses and elevation. It is coming along nicely. Pretty much pain free now and the redness is fading with each passing day.

My affliction is at least age appropriate. Who are you trying to fool with a condition that is common in young people between 12–20 years of age?

Grady's going to come home tomorrow. It's been pretty amazing watching his progress, but he does still have a long road ahead of him. We're looking at 4-6 weeks in the walker. There's no cast though, which is blowing my mind. At this point there's nothing but bruises and bandaids.

One of the weirdest things about this has been the number of people who asked if they "caught the guy". The guy stopped immediately and was actually extremely concerned (duh) and helpful until the paramedics arrived. Seriously, if you have to be run down by someone, try to get this guy, he was great!

Why is people's first assumption that someone would hit someone and then just take off?

Will talk about it eventually. I'm doing well. I would say that they I have been improving since the medical system and my support system kicked in. I got hit by a car, but I'm going to be okay. I'm incredibly lucky in so many ways, paramount is the live and support of ES.

Default Re: What's up with you?

I swear I proofread that post repeatedly, and I still ended up with multiple errors. Narco helps with pain but not post crafting. I've been off my ADHD meds for the last few days as well.

For most of my life I have not had quality health insurance (or any insurance at all for the most part). Google does offer quality health insurance.

I was in a marked crosswalk that did not have a light. In the nearest lane there was no traffic. In the second lane of traffic, there were two cars a silver one and a white one. I stepped into the road and paused. The silver car began slowing down, and I started forward. The silver car changed their mind, gunned it and sped through the crosswalk. I was surprised, I turned and looked at the car, I turned back and got hit by the white car. I figure he just followed the other car figuring the intersection was clear.

Getting hit by the car really fucking hurt. It hit me, I went up onto the windshield and fell to the pavement. I knew I was seriously hurt. A guy started talking to me. He told me to don't try to get up and to keep breathing. He comforted me and told me that I was doing well. I screamed in pain. I could hear JD talking to 911. A waitress from the nearby pizza place brought a towel for me to put my face on. The guy who was comforting me got a sweatshirt from his car for the same purpose. I couldn't see, I was worried that I might have a compound fracture. When the police got there, I found out that the guy comforting me was the driver who struck me.

Once the ambulance got there, I got morphine and started being in alot less pain.

JD met the ambulance at the ER and I started being helped. Everyone at the hospital has been fabulous. Both my tibia and fibula were broken, but I had no other serious damage.

I've been practicing using a walker during physical therapy, and I can move around pretty good now. I still have weeks before I can put weight on my right leg.

Throughout my stay ES has spent lots of time with me which has been a great comfort. I should go home today with ES.

I feel incredibly lucky to have good insurance and a spouse to help take care of me. The break was almost best case for getting hit by the car like I was. I had no head or neck injury. The guy who hit me helped take care of me until the paramedics got there. I'm steadily improving during physical therapy .

I have good health insurance in a first world nation. I have a loving wife who takes care of me.

I feel incredibly lucky all things considered.

I broke my tibia and fibia when I was about 12, it hurt like nothing I've ever experienced since and I wasn't hit by a car, just a person, so I imagine it hurt a lot more for you.

I'm glad you got morphine when the ambulance came because that kind of pain is no fucking fun at all.

Yay for Google insurance, yay for ES :)

Did you at least get some video of it so you can get on Ridiculousness?

Glad to hear you're on the mend, bey, and also that Dingfod's and Angakuk's conditions aren't very serious. Plus, I'm glad to see that Janet is okay. I was worried when I read those news reports about Flint.

I have much better news than injury, illness, or city managers poisoning the water supply. One of my favorite pieces of 20th century classical music, Olivier Messiaen's Des canyons aux étoiles (From the Canyons to the Stars), is being performed in Los Angeles, which is near enough for me to drive up for the evening and drive back.

But the funny thing is how I found out about it. Someone left an intemperate, ignorant, and badly written rant on the Youtube video of the piece about how people who claim to like these works must be "indoctrinated as a musician into thinking that much of this 20th Century Music is 'brilliant'" and how he had "cancelled going to hear this" and was "boycotting with [his] pocketbook all nihilistic crap as 'entertainment'". But that allowed me to infer that there was an upcoming performance, and I idly wondered where it was taking place and went looking for it. On the top page of results was a link to the LA Philharmonic page about their concert coming up in 2 weeks, on February 2 with the St. Louis Symphony at Los Angeles' Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Here's me when I read that: :chairdance:

So he's supposedly cancelling his ticket (although the website says that you can't cancel, refund, or substitute tickets), but I'm making up for it by buying one thanks to his inadvertent advertising. Had he not left that comment, I might have missed this opportunity.
