I know who Cilla Black is. I was very disappointed in her when my friend's mom made me watch some singing competition show she was judging. She called "Do You Love Me (Now that I can Dance)" a Beatles' song. The one Black panelist corrected her and said it was The Contours, which I applauded. But she responded that The Beatles made it famous in Britain. But The Beatles never recorded that song. I knew that without looking it up. She had no excuse for getting it wrong, considering she was another Brian Epstein act.

Just found out that Chris Squire, one of the greatest bassists prog ever produced, died on June 27 at age 68. Dude was a consummate pro and an absolute beast, touring right up to the end. If an afterlife there be, Squire no doubt has gigs booked every night for the next year.

SNCC co-founder, SPLC co-founder, former NAACP chairman, and Georgia congressman Julian Bond is dead, age 75. Robert Reich writes:

He may not be known to any of y'all but for a young bort growing up in the Houston area he was something of an icon. Dr. "Red" Duke has passed.
I don't remember any one segment he produced for Channel 13 KTRK that's how long ago it all was for me. But his signature sign off is burned into my brain and might be one of the last things I remember while I'm on this earth. "From the University of Texas Health Science Center, I'm Dr Red Duke."

Julius Erving was awesome in every way, but he never became an NBA champion until he teamed up with Malone. I was watching a lot of basketball back when Malone was at his best, and he did the impossible on a regular basis. He went up against the biggest, tallest and strongest inside players of his day and kicked all their asses.

ETA: These three are all Brits who worked in the Arts. They are in the order of their passing or, at least, of being reported (or at least in the order that I read of them). Which happens also to be in descending order of longevity, in descending order of merit (I think), and in ascending order of infamy. You guys stateside have probably heard only of La Collins so I've added links to videos that will help you understand why I value and will miss the other two.
