Of course it never occurred to me to just erase the existing writing and leave the edges alone. I was thinking of green screening shit in like domokun chasing kittens or whatever.

What is Intellectual Privacy and How Yours is Being Violated
I really want my committee to work on something, webinar or publication, to educate people on this topic. I hope we'll get it done.

Re: Privacy, Anonymity, and Compartmentalization
I've been noticing this recently with Google News.
All of a sudden I started getting tailored news, "Are you interested in [Ted Cruz]" etc.
I realized it's taking my youtube watch history and trying to translate it into what news items it should show me.

Re: Privacy, Anonymity, and Compartmentalization
One guy once actually told me he wouldn't sell me some $3 y-connector unless I gave him my info, and he didn't relent until I was actually out the door and on the way to my car. I can only imagine that someone who needed a part more urgently than I needed that one might have buckled.
Idiots, though. That was always the dumbest possible policy, especially considering their target market. There is a huge amount of overlap between privacy advocates and people who buy electronics parts.

Re: Privacy, Anonymity, and Compartmentalization
When I refused I was told that I could buy it without my info, but I wouldn't be allowed to return it. I may still have those wrong cables in a box somewhere because I never set foot in Radio Shack again.

Therapists and stuff, I dunno. I guess OK, maybe, but just Googling random people you know?
My fondest wish is that anyone who does that to me finds THIS POAST of me saying, "Stop that. It's creepy."

Dude. You don't even know how good pibble based psychology is. I completely and totally heartily recommend ZZ based therapy. You just don't or won't ever get it.

Write the Perfect Email to Anyone With This Creepy Site - Wired
Quote:
Like anything that cultivates an association with magic, Crystal is less impressive once you know how it works. If someone were looking you up, the site would start by examining things you’ve written publicly—social media profiles being a primary source—and analyzing factors like writing style and sentence structure. Then it processes what others have written about you. Using those data points, the site identifies you as one of 64 communicative types, which the company has adapted from well-known personality frameworks. Crystal doesn’t really know you, in other words, it just knows what you’re like.

Re: Privacy, Anonymity, and Compartmentalization
Bloody hell. It generated a profile for me. Some it was quite accurate. Some of it was surprising, but makes sense in terms of the public persona that I frame via my linkedin profile. Some of it was just lol wtf. I can't even guess how they extrapolated to that.
It coyly doesn't tell you what sources it found and analysed. Just:
Quote:
When you looked up xxx’s personality profile, Crystal looked through all of the answers provided directly by people who know them, as well as thousands of publicly available online data sources to find information written by or about xxx. Crystal then runs a personality detection analysis on the text to match with one of 64 different personality types within a few seconds.
The “accuracy confidence" index above indicates 1) how much relevant data was found for xxx and 2) how much of it was able to be used to determine personality.
The insights below are recommended strategies for communicating with someone that has xxx’s specific personality type, based on several widely-accepted personality assessments, like the Five-Factor Inventory, DiSC, and True Colors.
Crystal is not intended to provide a 100% perfect personality reading, but can provide useful insights to improve communication with anyone that has an online presence.

WTF I don't even. It's like astrology, I find myself nodding and saying, "yeah, I suppose that applies to me some of the time." Can you PM me the whole thing? Or fuck it, post it here.
